Jeepers, you're right. Didn't think of that. I'll now undertake a period of introspection and self criticism to reflect on my unconscious bias. Probably my male, pale and stale privilege seeping through.

Just heard that after last night's match that Tigers are changing colours to Pink & yellow if Collingwood change to Pink & grey.. Next to go is the white house & jesus statues to be pale brown. We are on the skids. Could be a grey day on the ASX. After that we could clean up the Russian oil spill. Will Alf Garnet's old show vanish.. I need enlightenment.

The people these statues represent are a part of human history be they bad or good they are still part of history and stand as a reminder of things good and bad of our past, like the ominous references to Orwell, some of these protesters wont rest until they rewrite history to suit their ends. One purpose of preserving history is to learn from it and hopefully don't repeat the mistakes, something these zealots dont understand.

I'm surprised that idiot Brad Pettitt hasn't chimed in by completely renaming Freo to Rainbow Land or something similar and tearing down CY O'Connor's statue.

correct SS and BC --it does remind me a little of what ISIS did in the Middle East; but whichever way you look it, isis or these loonies in America, both are profoundly intolerant, unsuitable to actually take part in the normal liberal democratic process. Did I read somewhere that the county are going discuss it in July? If so, that is called civilisation.

As someone said above, the rebels were a reconised belligerent in a civil war, whose relatives built statues to their dead on their own land. The rest of America, and especially the rest of the world should naff off. Having said all that, it was daft to name federal forts after the rebel commanders.

One other point, Lee and all the others should probably have been hung by their fellow army members even before the war started: it is called treason, and as I have stressed on here, US history is full of treason all the way back to Washington himself -- another Southerner too -- four of the first six Presidents were from Virginia from memory.
