I don't disagree with both views jack but I think we need to remember the statue wasn't erected to celebrate him being a slave trader...it was erected for all the good stuff of a civic nature he did for Bristol.

Colstons statue was erected in 1895 ages after slavery had stopped, it was put there by the citizens of Bristol to mark the fact he built/designed the docks, built the Hospital ( still in use today probably by some of the protestors)built schools ( ditto) built homes for the poor, as well as many other public works. And even his role in slavery is clouded , he wasnt a "slave trader" he didnt actually command slave ships, he apparently had shares in a company that did, as well as John Locke a famous philosopher.

In the case of Millington it was 200 years old and marked the West India Docks which once again were designed and built for him and over 200 years brought in enormous wealth to the nation and Australia as well because a lot of our goods were unloaded there (millions of pounds worth of wool) . The docks remain there today even if the statue is gone in Khans cultural cleansing as a permanent tribute to his work.
