Like you Mike I am sure we will see the list be rebuilt, with a lot being de-listed or traded. That is if we can find trades for any of those who we need to move on.But with us being in this position that we find our selves in now, does that mean we go back to players from elsewhere not waning to come to Fremantle, due to that fact we are going to re-build.
What you say about having to keep some senior players is right also.Lyon himself said that. You can't just fill the side with inexperienced players.
I think we will see Sam Collins play this week.He has had a lot of VFL experience against more AFL players than any others.
I said it before, I think our side over all is far too small. We have players like Sutcliffe and Sheridan, who are not really big bodies, yet we expect them to take on big bodied forwards.
Here is my view on the list for 2017
Ballantyne - possible trade bait
Dawson - won't be traded while Ross is coach
Bennell - long term investment, will add value
Ibbotson -keep
Danyle Pearce - Possible trade bait
Fyfe - keep - is a future captain
Suban -Uncertain future, possible trade or delist
De Boer - trade bait
Walters - keep, another potential captain
Sheridan - keep, not convinced about him though
Griffin - coming towards the end I think
Mzungu - ditto
Weller - keep, needs to be in the team for the rest of 2016
Hughes - keep
Mundy - keep, probably 2 more years after this
Crozier - keep, needs an extended period in the team.
Tucker - keep, a great prospect
Blakely - as per Weller
Taberner - give him an extended run in the team and see if he develops, if not trade
Barlow - keep but on 1 year contract
Mayne - Free agent,may leave
Balic - keep, give him an opportunity
Alex Pearce - Keep
Langdon - keep, more opportunities in 2016
Neale - keep if he wants to stay
Grey - Keep, looks good
Pavlich - Almost certainly retiring at end of 2016
Clarke - Trade bait
Sandilands- 1 year contract for 2017, see how it goes from there.
Hill - Keep
Sutcliffe - keep
Spurr - keep
Apeness - hard to make an assessment because he has been injured so much ( rookie list in 2017?)
Silvagni - trade or delist
Johnson - 1 year contract for 2017
Hannath - As per Tabernar, need to find out if he is up to it, if not trade
Collins - keep and play the guy ASAP
Yarran - needs an opportunity, would keep him for next year
Clancee Pearce - appears to have dropped off the radar, may be trade or delist
Of the rookies Morabito will have to show something in the WAFL to retain his spot, the others haven't really had a chance yet to show their wares.
The guys I have identified as trade bait, doesn't mean I reckon they should all be traded, just if the right swap comes up to benefit both the player and club. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that Fremantles most pressing needs are to identify a replacement for Sandilands, a big forward to replace Pavlich and another tall backman to provide depth for the gap left by Mcpharlin. The midfield looks OK. What Ross needs to in 2016 is to determine if he has the potential replacements in this group or if he needs to look outside and trade. We know that McCarthy is a possibility for next year but if they want to get him they will have to give something significant to GWS.
