Did anyone see the Melbourne v Richmond game tonight? It was a fantastic contest with 34 goals scored and some great footy played by both sides. The contrast with the Freo game could not have been more stark which was just abject football by both sides. Paul Roos is one of the great coaches of history as he has turned the Demons from a complete basket case to a possible top 8 contender in just over 2 years. He has also moved with the times as he was one of the most defensive orientated coaches in the league but his young charges kicked 20 goals tonight and they are bursting with self confidence. Freo are not in as bad a state now as Melbourne were 2 years ago so it shows that things can turn around very quickly if the coach is prepared to take a long term view and give games to young guys at the expense of short term success.

Mike, watched Hawks v Crows, Swans, Cats Gws,high intensity and all exciting skilled teams, then watched that fiasco yesterday, if that display at Subiaco is Afl standard then give me the wafl any day , the derby was far better.
The shockers are reverting to Drumesk days, in fact 5 losses takes them that far back with the draw going forward they are looking at a battle to avoid the spoon, tbh the writing was on the wall for that team late last year, they were only just going, another year older, lack of development, a game plan they cannot execute due to low skills and speed.

Spot on Bazza, Freos "style" ( aka Saints ) was IMHO never gunna win a flag. What the killer is, no real player development, and stiking to his tried ( and UNSUCCESSFULL) formula, and not being a forward thinking coach ala ( clarkson, Scott boys, Longmire, etc ).
Similar to Hardwick, they old style game just doesnt work. Should he have realised that the limited rotations, would affect that manic pressure game, of course they should have....but did they plan for it????????????????????

Your correct short term about Freos train wreck last night Anchorman.Last nights injury toll will not help Peel in any way.
But the people who run Freo might make the decision that the Afl game has passed at least 30% of last night's team buy.The only place Thoes players can go to regain there form is Peel.

How can you blame "those Victorians in charge of recruiting" Even PN wouldn't suggest that.

Oh that's right the team just one ten in a row let's put that on hold and play the youngsters do any of you even know footy Christ.

Was never going to win A flag really, I watched the Geelong Saints GF the other day you should know that the second qtr of that grand final was dominated by the Saints it's not Lyons fault the players kicked behinds in stead of goal the game should of been over by half time.

Obviously you aren't aware that the Saints kicked over a hundred points ten times in 2009 and there percentage was just under one eigthies not bad for a game style that doesn't work.

And for the last furphy of not being able to rebuild he's got his chance now he will and should be judged when he's had the chance to do that, all you experts surely know he hasn't had that chance yet.

Okay it's plainly obvious there is change already in the game plan, he could of stayed with the old one and probably had three wins on the board, your short memories should tell you that Freo were within a kick of the prelim with the exactly same squad as last year.

He's already blooded the youngsters this year with more to come, lol for a club that's done nothing there sure are a lot of posters on this site posting on all things Freo , maybe one or two Freo supporters don't you trolls have anything to post about the AFL sides you support, i will give Grassy his dues at least he does.

Last quarter Saints V Cats in the sopping rain, leaves a great wet weather player in Ball on the bench!, he probably thought Brtett Peake was more useful. 10in a row eh..sure, how bout looking at the record of the last say 40 games, how does that stack up? History is full of GOOD coaches, thats what Ross is. Great coaches win flags. The fact the Saints DIDN'T win a flag is a blight on Ross's coaching with the list he had. Him eade and Hardwick, all in the same basket. I support the Cats , we delisted premiership players, Chapman, Stokes, Kelly, Johnson, reckon Ross would have...nahhh. We at least saw the writing on the wall, and trasitioned our list. Ya got the oldest list in the AFL and are bottom, surely Ross has to take some of the responsibility for that

How can you blame "those Victorians in charge of recruiting" Even PN wouldn't suggest that.

Two of our earliest draft picks in the last 5 years have been Jayden Pitt and Jessie Simpson what a waste.

Failed to recruit any quality key forwards either through the draft or through trades.

Fail to show any boldness or imagination at the trade table when we should have been offering up the likes of Zac Clarke, Barlow, Mayne, Sylvagni, Suban etc.....

Just a week or two ago Caroline Wilson questioned the recruiting record of Mathew Lloyds brothers and Chris Bond and apologized to Mathew. Mathew said no need to apologize you are entitled to your opinion. Lloydy made no attempt to defend our recruiting because he most likely agrees.

I don't think they place enough stock in local talent from the WAFL. Marcus Adams is a classic example, his growth as a player has been plain to see and right under the noses of our recruiters.

What quality forwards are you talking about , the simple fact is they've tried to recruit them but they don't want to come west, we havnt had a top ten pick in years which is what you need for a quality forward with GWS GC and priority picks it pushes our 1st rounders out two second rounders.

Those players you mentioned you wouldn't get a third rounder for the lot of them, Lyon was recruited for instant success which you can't deny played finals sincec 2012.

Now he's been giving the mandate to rebuild, if you read between the lines of his tweet strap yourselves in I'm willing to bet he knew we were in for a bit of pain this year.

And there is only one way to do that and that's bottom out.
