What went wrong???

Game wasn't the big news, it was the Joondalup Mayor and what he said at a pre game function.

Along the lines of 'today is a great day for AFL in the City of Joondalup which will only be beaten in three years when the Arena redevelopment is completed and the first WAFL game will be played by a team called Joondalup wearing City of Joondalup colours'

Knew the name change was coming but a change in colours? Did I miss that?

Was very impressive by the Eagles but they had very little opposition. The Dockers were there in body only and there was none of the defensive pressure that they were renowned for last year. Insane starting the game in 37 degree heat as well just to suit Eastern States audiences who weren't interested in a Western Derby anyway.

Yeah I was just thinking that it looked like one of those replays of a WAFL game in the 80's!!

Don't know as I wasn't at the game - Just saw it on the news and couldn't believe how good the crowd was.

10,737 according to the AFL website....... amazing in a meaningless game!

yep just under 11,000, amazing crowd given ,.1 Heat, 2. Start time of 4pm - most still at work and being a Tuesday Night,

Just goes to show huge lack of interest the WA Sporting public has in AFL as opposed to WAFL, try getting 11,000 at even a blockbust WAFL game in perfect conditions of a Saturday arvo. You only get 3000 at a Semi Final these days! WAFL is dead in the publics eyes.

Interesting Joondalup Falcons are coming, makes sense, WP is an irrellevancy going forward.

As for the game, WOW Eagles looking far better now that Worsfold is gone, hungers and keeness is back big time.

Not exactly sure WTF was going on with the dockers, looked like they were still hungover from the grand final wake, Ballantyne backed up his GF perrformance in his first hit out!

Going to be hard for the dockers to back it up I reckon, much tougher draw this year and they will go from the hunters to the hunted. Juxtaposed to the eagles who I notice have been gifted a dream draw., they should make the 8 with no trouble,

The result was predictable given WCE are 4 weeks more advanced in pre-season than Freo...what was it? a 70 point flogging of the Dockers by the Blues in the corresponding game last year?...go figure.

As much as I would love to get stuck in to the freo floggers AM is right, it is only NAB cup / challenge / shitcomp. Preseason matches mean nothing on the big stage. Look at Brisbane last year, they won it then didnt make finals. Carlton have won it then won the wooden spoon in the same year I think (correct me if Im wrong).
Freo might have a harder draw this year, but last years draw for them was hardly a breeze (even though they had a few easy matches to finish off with) and as much as it pains me to say this, I think they will be in the GF this year and it will be their first year of ultimate glory. They have a very well drilled team and have what it takes to beat anyone.
