Too true Falcon, I would rather have only a top 4, because if we had that, no one would give a toss what team Peel put out v EP in the first semi on the weekend or cared who out of Cl and SD made 5th spot......both teams TBH would of been out of finals contention a while back if there had of been only a top 4.....all it did was raise the excitement of two traditional WAFL clubs and their fans and cover up the fact that a top 5 was instigated to please Freo & WCE, by keeping their 2nd tier players match fit if they made the AFL finals this year.....which they both did, thus win win for both AFL clubs and more brownie points for the WAFC......Peel to win this weekend by 1 pt too :silly:

Im leaning toward not having the 5 Freeze but in all fairness, both CL and Swans who were vying for 5th spot have the ability to go further in the Finals (Swans more so for mine) and they finished 6th !!!

Reviews of games

RESERVES 9AM START

West Perth v East Perth HBF Arena
The final five in this grade has been settled for some time and East Perth has been able to plan for this meeting with West Perth in earnest.
However, the Royals will go into the sudden-death clash with confidence after winning
the previous battle with their archrivals in round 19.
Daniel Perkins and Beau Chatley were important for East Perth in that battle and remain key players in the finals campaign.

The Falcons enter the finals on the back of a draw with Claremont last round. The result should spur Mark Crisp and Sam Money, who have been strong in recent weeks.

Head to head in 2015
– WP 2. EP 1.
Previous meeting – Round 19: EP 14.14 (98) def WP 11.4 (70)
at Medibank Stadium.
Highest score in head to head: WP 20.14 (134) (v 7.7 49) at HB

COLTS
East Fremantle V West Perth HBF Arena
This clash is part of a busy day for West Perth, the only club to have teams in all grade finals.
So the fledgling Falcons will be keen to be a part of a trinity of triumphs for the Joondalup club.
A loss to competition leader Claremont in round 23 wasn’t the best preparation for the hosts but Mitch Antonio’s 40-goal haul for the season ensures East Fremantle
faces a tough test at HBF Arena.
The Sharks also lost in the last round but only two weeks ago kept Subiaco to just 2.2 (14) , led by Fraser Perry’s 43-possession haul. Perry played three league matches
before returning to prepare for the colts finals.

Head to head in 2015 – WP 1. EF 1.
Previous meeting – Round 20:
WP 7.4 (46) def EF 2.4 (16)
at ATOM Stadium.
Highest score in head to head:
EF 6.16 (52) (v 4.7 31) at HBF Arena,

LEAGUE

WEST PERTH v PEEL
The match-up board at HBF Arena was a little barren this week. While West Perth had its names in the usual positions, it was almost impossible for coach Bill Monaghan to determine his Peel opponents.
Fremantle’s decision to rest many players for its final home-and away match has had a domino effect on the Thunder. Under their alignment deal they will lose a raft of senior players to the Dockers.
Fortunately Monaghan knows he can simply back his players to do the required job Irrespective of who the Falcons are facing.
Shane Nelson, Aaron Black, Rohan Kerr and Steven Browne perform every week. And it is that consistency
that has helped the Falcons win nine of their 10 matches at home in 2015.
Black and Nelson are in the top five possession winners in the competition
this season and limiting their usage will be the key for whatever combination the
Thunder throws together for their first WAFL league final.
One saving grace for Peel, which, like the Falcons, has won 13 or 20 matches,
is that it has relied on a core group of WAFL-based players
on which to build a team.
C a p t a i n Brendon Jones remains a vital leader, Leroy Jetta has been a livewire in
attack, Josh Bootsma has marshalled the defence and Warnbro’s Ben Hancock has forced his way into team for 13 matches. They will be crucial to help organise some of the less experienced Thunder players that will come into the final.

West Perth has wins against Peel in their two meetings this season, yet the most
recent was in round 11 when the Falcons triumphed by just four points in Mandurah.

UMPIRES

Did anyone hear Bill on ABC radio after the game? He said that he's not sure if they took more out of today's game, more than Subi did in their training run this morning.

Going by the recent talk, will the top 5 be around next season? Will be interesting to see the outcome of the review.
All eyes will be looking forward to the Subiaco - West Perth match next week.

From what I heard it is CHN 7 who wanted the top 5 to give their product more exposure.
3 year contract with 7...
It appears 7 is now running the WAFL.
Not bad considering we paid them a Million they didnt pay us and WAFL will get nothing out of the agreement.. :(

The top five idea was introduced to increase crowd numbers (more bums on seats, to borrow a phrase)and of course for the increased revenue that would be generated.
The increase in revenue being the major reason.
One now has to ask the question of why the current telecaster is televising the Wafl? Obviously doing it for the wrong reason/ s!
The telecaster is very happy for the 'production company' to be paid a million dollars but not so keen to give value for money!

Well done West Perth for flogging those pretenders today. You have ensured that one of the alignment sides will be eliminated next week. Good luck against Subiaco next week. I hope that you make it straight through to the grand Final.

If you do make it through to the Grand Final & channel wanker refuse to telecast it, maybe a few more supporters might actually go to the game, increasing the crowd numbers.

What happened to your Colts today freeze I would have thought they would have won that even accounting for big Luke being out?
