If he get’s his clearance it will give contracted players carte-blanche to walk out of a club at will.
I am no lawyer but surely a legal binding contract must be upheld except under mutually agreed circumstances or by default by one of the parties.
WAFC must look closely at the consequences of their final decision.
If Perth have yielded and agreed to a clearance subject to agreement on transfer fee, and I hope that they have not, then that fee must surely reflect the existence of the prior contract.
For mine, there should be no clearance. He should serve out the final year or play ammos at best.

Ted Nugent wrote: On what basis would it be upheld? Is there some legal basis or just the tendency of the arbitrator to be weak? There is a wider issue at stake here. WAFL clubs routinely clear players who are not getting an opportunity at league level, and rightly so. But to allow a required player to break his contract would set a very poor precedent. It would be extraordinary if the WAFL makes noises about wanting Perth to become stronger, then, as well as docking us 20 points, allows one of out best 6 players to go to a rival club - a club that is recruiting heavily and seems supremely confident of finishing ahead of Perth this year.

Beautifully said Ted. My mail was any appeal through an arbitrator would most likely be unsuccessful because quite simply, Leggett is ineligible to be cleared under the rules. As you said it would set a dangerous precident.

This isn't the AFL where clubs can cough up draft picks and pay overs ie Gold Coast for Lachie Weller, Brisbane for Lachie Neale. It seems like EF have nothing to give and are relying on Perth or an arbitrator being sympathetic. In other words charitable.

I guess with EF being the weaker of the two clubs over the last 2 seasons, the Masten effect might be coming back and biting one club unexpectedly on the arse in this Leggett saga......and it ain't a blue n white one.....common sense will prevail boys....it always does.

The only common sense aspect is that Leggett is under contract.
Perth are steadfastly refusing to release him from that.
If common sense prevails he will not be cleared.

A player doesn’t go to arbitration unless they think they can win. There has to be an issue with Perth and Leggett. Why would he want to leave?? It’ll all come out in the wash surely, but the info so far doesn’t add up to me

FF2.....you still a bit raw from missing that 85 premiership side mate?..Perhaps if Peel had been around back then, you could of gone there for a kick mate..nothing wrong with providing a player/s an opportunity to play WAFL league footy....no matter their circumstances...helps having an ex Peel colts coach at the club though....

STT...don't talk to me about sloppy seconds mate....EF suffered big time under the sloppiness of a former Perth coach....anyway isn't your current coach a former EF coach?....

Not a huge loss IMO. He has been very disappointing since he returned from AFL.

A very disappointing waste of talent. Joins Dion Woods, Dean Dick and Clem Smith as de-listed AFL players who blew their chances to forge careers at AFL or WAFL level.

Agree and if Bennell still has to be dragged to training and isn’t working his butt off in the weights room they can show him the door too.
