The way i see it is that Eyres isnt always in great form plus theres injury, his career form to date has been up and down.
Latch and or Johnston will still have to do a fair share of pinch hitting in the ruck imo.

To be fair not too many clubs have two genuine recognised ruckmen of league quality but it's important to have a good alternative if and when your No 1 ruckman goes down or just needs a rest. Too often in the past we've burned our No 1 ruckman because he's been forced to carry too big a load. Too much burden is often placed on one man.

Spencer White might also be able to relieve in the ruck and perhaps Angus can go forward so we don't miss out up front.

Leave White as a forward,Eyres is the one,hes 26 next year and been in the system long enough,he has to stand tall and do his bit in the ruck when called on.

Im all for Graham resting forward but leave all our other KP's where they are.

Do we not have any young Ruckmen coming through that look a likely prospect?

A good team gets away with pinch hiters in the ruck,we have a way to go on that front.

The problem is if you play Eyres as 2nd change ruckman you are sacrificing a running player to add to rotations. If Eyres doesn't have an impact he becomes a liability. Aaron Zucconi was a perfect example of a versatile player who could hold down a key position but also be an effective pinch hit ruckman. Not sure we have another of that type in the ranks. I reckon throwing Latch into the ruck gave him knee problems.

Unless we get another tall key defender we need both Latch and Johnston to settle into the key positions and not be used as pinch hitter rucks.
If we get that tall KPP down back he and Latch can do the job and Johnston becomes a back-up ruck option which he does reasonably well IMO.

Eyres is 25 and only 193 but he averages 22 hitouts per game at league level. His general play around the ground and general decision making must improve but as far as I can see he is the only genuine ruck back-up should Graham have any problems.
Having said all that he will need to take his game up to a new level IMO.

Zucca was on the track up until Christmas. I have not been down to training at all this year so can't say if he has been there or not.

As far as I am aware Zucconi started preseason on day one and was doing it up until the Christmas break.

He was looking in pretty good nick in terms of he didn't seem to be carrying any extra kilos. I suppose it will be about building is fitness base and getting the miles into his legs. He has played at South Mandurah the last couple of season I think.
