Maybe there is a Southport JFC.

Think you'll find this guy was recruited by Souths in 2014 and formerly played for the Gold Coast's NEAFL team. Obviously was hoping for more opportunities at Souths than he got. There's no guarantee that he has signed with us. Maybe he's just training in hope of being signed???

PD Stephen Mills is on the WAFL website as a 5 point player.
This would indicate that his clearance is through.
He has played 2 league and 30 odd reserves games and does not appear to be a prolific goal kicker.
I hope that he is not the gun tall forward the Club has been looking for.
I question the use of points to pick up a depth player.
This smacks of compromise and steers clear of recruiting for our needs.
I hope there is more news on the tall forward we are all hoping for.

I agree DF. From what is known he is a depth player and it is to be hoped that the 5 points spent will turn out to have been an astute and well considered decision.
We still need that gun forward and we don't want to be caught short of points to achieve that prime requirement.

That was all a bit of a let down if he is the player, sounds like height is the only thing he has going for him.
This surely is not the guy PD was talking about because he stated this guy didnt play in the NEAFL comp but he did play in a stronger second tier comp, you surely werent talking South Freo ressies were you??

We need a noted goal kicker a genuine 50 to 60 plus goal a year forward not someone they hope can do the job.

I wonder if we looked at Bryce Retzlaff or the guy Stanley was talking about (had a lot of Fraser Gherig about him)??

Stephen Mills can play at both ends of the ground from the little info I have read on him.

Maybe he's been brought in for extra height down back and we are still in talks with this key forward.

Mr AFL I would say he has just walked in looking for a game.
Someone at South probably mentioned Marty's name.
He could not possibly be regarded as the "tall forward" we need.
I hope his 5 points haven't jeopodized our recruiting.

DF I'm not saying he is the tall forward. I think that player is still to be announced.

What worries me is spending points on that type of player.
We do it too often.
You must spend points on players who are going to make a difference.
Look at David Johnston been with us for 3 seasons still 3 points, I think originally 5.
He's now played 43 league games and I'm not sure he is making the impact he should.
Current points:
Ashley Boyes 2, impact?
Rowan Brookes 3, impact?
Toby Giannati 5, expensive, impact?
Brent Latch 3, developing
Kelvin Lawrence 10, impact?, very expensive reserves player
Stephen Mills 5, impact?, we'll see but I doubt it
Jacob Payne 3, impact?
Aidan Tropiao 5, impact player absolutely, astute recruiting
Brett Wolfenden 7, out of game for 3 years, played League - yes,

I believe there is probably over 20 points that could have been spent in a better manner which could have made an impact.

Am I being harsh, don't know when it comes to points and salary cap I'm not sure we get value for money.

We have been a dumping ground in the past, it needs to change if we are serious.

Will that change if we start winning games hopefully.

Some of the above players could have been covered by developing from within.
Freeing up points and money for impact players that would take us where we want to go.

This is just MHO.
