Some good positive signs all round. Tropiano is a good get. Fitted in well and took the EF treatment like a class act.
When I arrived at the ground a mate said to be prepared for a pleasant surprise. What the heck was going on? We were playing direct footy thru the corridor. I heard Williams instructions at the first break to stop the lateral movement and play long and direct. A breath of fresh air.
Not good enough to sustain the effort at critical times but certainly they showed what they are capable of.
Impressed with leadership of the exAFL players.
Agree, a fit Leyendekkers will be a top wafl player. And, yes, Houghton is at long last starting to step up. Yesterday was his best game for the club.
Good summaries on here by all.

30+ Stacky was tried everywhere yesterday. Up forward early, had a run in the middle then went to the half back line. He's out of touch no doubt but he's too good to be playing twos. Keast was a late withdrawal so we didn't play a tagger yesterday.

Yes Williams did say he wasn't going to mix it up too much and you can't after having four years of the failed game plan drilled into them. They definitely tried to play longer and straighter out of the back line which was noticeable but when the pressure came from EF they reverted back to the sideways out kicks.

Apart from Boyle who came in for Keast and Kane who had shockers I reckon the effort was there from the boys and i thought Bateman who was terrific with his decision making and aggression and a bit more experience in the team with the ins it was a pretty good line up to take into that game.

Now time to start giving a couple of kids a go over the remaining games starting with Arangio and Garstone before the season's out.

Teams generally lift and perform better in game one of a new coach than they have over the past month or so when a coach is replaced during the season.
Lets see if the endevour is still there in a months time.
Didnt Williams quote during the week that he was not going to change anything?

If they keep Williams on board give him the colts job, thats where he made his name at Peel.
I personally would like to see a complete new look in the coaches box with the new senior coach making his own appointments.

Houghton has to string games together over a month or so before i would be convinced he is going to be the KP we need, shows glimpses and then nothing for long periods.
Brennan Stack looks like he had a quiet one,was he well beaten or the ball just didnt go his way?

Any word at the game yesterday in who may be the leading contender or who the club wants??

Others may have heard something but I noticed Bob Sheilds and Colin Lofts near the huddle at 3 qtr time. Great to see and I don't care that they probably in their 60's, ask them to be part of a selection panel for the new coach. Both champions in their time who knew how to win.
Get on your bike.

Dazz, Boyle definitely off the boil atm, pardon the pun, and Kane had not his best day, but overall a good team effort. Yes, Williams does speak well, good no nonsense stuff and the players listened. I too would like to see him stay on board in a development role.
I agree with Arangio being given a chance but IMO Garstone has been disappointing and for mine has not shown enough yet.
DD, I spoke to a couple of guys about the selection panel but they would not give me names. They both said that they were very confident that we have appointed the right people to get the job done. Yes, I saw Bob Shields and Colin Lofts together for the whole game and from their body language it could be deduced that they may be involved. Who knows??? I would have expected former players to be involved.
I did not hear any suggestions about a possible coach but I did hear that one whose name has already been thrown about may possibly not want as much coin as you might expect.
