Gonna be a tough ask for either Eyres or DBW v Gault on the weekend. STT.....WAFL fans know Gault is a class act, does Moss use the shorter bullocking Eyres to negate Gault, or play the as tall DBW? Horses for courses I reckon...Eyres could get the gig.......gonna be a great contest between both sides midfields....both with elite runners and ball users.....perhaps with McInnes out, SD may have the upper hand up front with new recruit Palmer as a tall target....though Perth did overcome the early loss of McInnes and still found goals......could be game of the round.....hopefully another free flowing ,goals galore contest....who ever blinks first ....loses.

FYI clearances were 46 to 41 in their favour.
Maybe we didn't do so bad.
Ease up on the crap.

The stats do tell the story you are quite right.
But give some credit to the opposition.
Vardy dominated the ruck we agree on that.
But the clearances were 41/46, in days gone we would not have done that well in the clearances.
They also had some very good clearance players, in particular O'Neill and Trew.
Our clearance work was very good together with our movement of the ball.

If you were expecting an easy win, it was never going to happen.
WCE will win their fair share of games given a good run with injuries to their AFL players.

We know we need a ruckman we were going to try and recruit Vardy but WCE traded Hickey instead.

DBW IMHO opinion did quite well with 18 HOs.
Would Eyres have done any better? Not sure.
DBW is more mobile he got around the ground and in the end took a couple of great marks.
He is young and is a work in progress.
Would we like Brock Higgins? Yes. Have we got him? No.

But get off the kids back.
DBW was not the reason they had more clearances than we did.

Did Moss blame DBW? No he didn't.
He pointed an area where need to improve and that is allowing the easy clearances that turn into scoring shots.
Is that entirely DBW's fault?
No it isn't.

All I am saying is give the kid a chance he is the closest thing we have to a 200cm ruckman.

Have a look at the replay again, that was a very good win against a good side that will contend for the final 5.

On a side note the replay may well also show that some of the free kicks that I complained about were actually there.
We need to eradicate the discipline deficiencies as highlighted by Moss.

Not quite sure where some of you were this afternoon but it wasn't Lathlain it would seem.
Firstly - Clearances, we absolutely dominated clearances in the first quarter. I recall saying to someone at Qtr time we had something like 18 to 9 clearances in that quarter alone.
Pity the WAFL took that stat away.
And free kicks which were something like 29/21 in favour of WCE.
Our I50s were 69/46 for 28 scoring shots to 20.
Yes we probably should have won by more.
What more do you want.
I admit we  missed some soft goals but we also kicked some pearlers (including Sinclair).

Secondly DBW - again you must have missed something.
First of all let me just say Vardy is undoubtedly one of the best ruckman in the League.
His stats were HO 35 D 15 M 3 T 1
DBW HO 18 D12  M 2 T 4
Yes he probably lost the battle but he did toil manfully all day.
Overall our HOs were WCE 52 to 32.

But we were led by a midfield that is going to be amongst the best in the league this year given a good run with injury.
Newbies Langlands Smith Clark & Byrne all proved their class and work ethic.
We have never switched play and transitioned forward with that precision.
It was fantastic to see.

Our defence was outstanding Hill Davis (21) Coniglio (21) Taylor (23) Sinclair (15) did a terrific job with Giblett Hill and Nicholas all doing their bit.

McInnes looks like missing a couple with a strained peck.
That gives Reid and Bird a chance, probably Reid because he can pinch hit in the ruck.

Do not underestimate WCE they are a very good side and will win their fair share of games and fight it out for the final spots in the 5. A lot will depend on injuries to their AFL players of course.

All in all a great effort and we ran it out in hot conditions under pressure. A very good win.

I hope lots of people continue to think Perth will miss the 5 lots of luck!!!
Have to agree DF - what game were some people watching? I thought DBW did well especially considering Fraser was missing for 3/4 of the game.  Vardy is clearly very experienced and drew many free kicks. What frustrated me was how he was grabbing DBW jumper front on in every boundary throw in but due to the positioning of the umpires he got away with it every time. Dakota needs to learn how to combat this tactic.
Also agreed our defenders were fantastic. Let’s not forget this new rule will make it harder for defenders and higher scores will naturally occur. With that in mind, I though Kasey Nicholas was BOG narrowly edging out Coniglio, smith and Grey.

Have to agree PD, Nicholas was very very good and Coniglio has grown another leg I like him.
Don't have a problem with our defence I think they do a good job.
What I like is the way we are running.
We are running and working very hard to provide options like I have never seen us do before.
Our fitness is obviously up there.
Was very happy with Byrne, I thought his form first game back was superb. I had forgotten how classy he is.
Add Busher up forward and you never know what may happen.

If we could get Busher and when Frase comes back our best side has Gibba rucking.  Will
never happen cos he hates it but there’s our best side. Bush at fb, mac at chf, Gibba on ball.
Get on your bike.
It was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

How did Witherden get off for striking Byrne. I noticed a couple of their dogs were after Byrne during the match.

There has been a history of AFL listed thugs working over WAFL level players in the past 10 years or so - some have caused serious injury to them
Remember that brain dead flop Mitch Brown breaking a 17 year old Mason Shaw's jaw behind play with a king hit?
