Not quite sure where some of you were this afternoon but it wasn't Lathlain it would seem.
Firstly - Clearances, we absolutely dominated clearances in the first quarter. I recall saying to someone at Qtr time we had something like 18 to 9 clearances in that quarter alone.
Pity the WAFL took that stat away.
And free kicks which were something like 29/21 in favour of WCE.
Our I50s were 69/46 for 28 scoring shots to 20.
Yes we probably should have won by more.
What more do you want.
I admit we  missed some soft goals but we also kicked some pearlers (including Sinclair).

Secondly DBW - again you must have missed something.
First of all let me just say Vardy is undoubtedly one of the best ruckman in the League.
His stats were HO 35 D 15 M 3 T 1
DBW HO 18 D12  M 2 T 4
Yes he probably lost the battle but he did toil manfully all day.
Overall our HOs were WCE 52 to 32.

But we were led by a midfield that is going to be amongst the best in the league this year given a good run with injury.
Newbies Langlands Smith Clark & Byrne all proved their class and work ethic.
We have never switched play and transitioned forward with that precision.
It was fantastic to see.

Our defence was outstanding Hill Davis (21) Coniglio (21) Taylor (23) Sinclair (15) did a terrific job with Giblett Hill and Nicholas all doing their bit.

McInnes looks like missing a couple with a strained peck.
That gives Reid and Bird a chance, probably Reid because he can pinch hit in the ruck.

Do not underestimate WCE they are a very good side and will win their fair share of games and fight it out for the final spots in the 5. A lot will depend on injuries to their AFL players of course.

All in all a great effort and we ran it out in hot conditions under pressure. A very good win.

I hope lots of people continue to think Perth will miss the 5 lots of luck!!!
Can anyone clarify if we are having a top 5 or 4 this year? With the introduction of the Eagles reserves in the WAFL the WAFC went back to a top 5 with 10 teams. Makes sense but with no Eagles reserves last year in the shortened Covid season it went back to top 4. I ask this because the WAFL app is showing a top 4 not 5.

By the way DF, great summary. Agree totally. This is the best Perth midfield I’ve seen in a long long time in terms of skill level, fitness and speed. Early days of course but I’m pretty confident we are going to at least match any midfield in the comp this year. That’s probably our full strength midfield out there today so no doubt we will be tested with injuries throughout the season.

Fisher, Richo, Stubbs, Reid, Bird, Eyres, John, Gray, La Fontaine and down the track Busher, Taylor and Avery.
Get on your bike.
It was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

The WA Football website says top 5.

Having seen the scores from across the 5 games, I may have been a bit harsh about us conceding 95 points. Every game was a high scoring game. Still, I wouldn't; want to have shoot-outs too often. The other concern I had was twice coughing up a handy lead. We went from 3 goals up top 2 goals down in the first quarter and 4 goals up to 2 goals down from the 3rd into the last. Very pleasing in the last that we were able to come home so strongly, especially with a player down. But one of our recurrent problems over the years has been an inability to stem an opposition run-on. Momentum shifts within a game, but when it goes against us, we need to be able to limit the damage to about 3 goals. We can't afford to concede 5-6 goals in a 10 minute period.

First up wins are always good.
we were really good at times but dropped off in parts.
Ted I reckon we let West Coast kick too many goals in junk time.
Midfield was great for most of the day really liked Brady Greys game.
I liked Coniglios game in the backline.
For me the jury’s still out on DBW,he’s a big boy and he needs to get his hands on the ball more when it’s in the air, take those marks around the ground where they count.
Only round one so hopefully this part of his game will improve

all in all 4 valuable points in the bank and we need to back it up against Swans next week.

Great win yesterday by the boys. Agree that we let them score some easy goals and we need to stop teams getting a run on. Need to back up this performance against Swans next week. The temperature should be a lot cooler with the game kicking off at 5:10pm however they reckon there could be anywhere between 10-20mm of rain.

Just re streamed the game on Facebook. Gossage a bit of a goose on occasion but overall he and the other guy were entertaining enough and seemed to know most of the players and a bit about them too. It's bloody great to be able to watch your team.

Gee we are going to miss Fraze. He was massive before going down. Massive at the important part of the game - the beginning. The incident didn't seem like much. Who comes in for him. Just asking can Two Dads play full forward and have Eyers return to the Ruck. Not criticising Two Dads ruck display just bringing in a big body for a big body. Our top 5 players at the awards last night didn't  see anyone over 180cm's.

I liked everyones game - though still think Edmonds needs to improve. Saw Kristian Cary after the game and although only about 185cm - he looks very solid.

Anyone know how Taylor's hamstring pulled up.

I can't see why we can't have 4000 spectators there on Saturday for 5pm.

Go Dees

Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Thought Brady Grey and Coniglio were excellent.

At the game yesterday our wingman principally Regan Clark (21 possessions and 9 marks) and Edmonds 23 possessions and 8 marks were both important with their run throughout the day.

I think Jordan Reid may come in for Fraser.
He can also pinch hit in the ruck.
and is very agile and has good skills.
So he may get his chance.
Edmonds provided a great link through the middle.
One of his better games.
