Sam Stubbs was starting to establish himself since making his debut against Claremont in round 6 and I believe he would have held his spot if he didn't suffer a hamstring injury.

Payne was the out for Eyres on the weekend so it's going to be tricky for the selectors. Conor McPartland I think has done enough to keep his spot since debuting against Swans the week before. His last qtr was huge on the weekend.

I think I heard Earl say Payne was rested as he was carrying a hip complaint so it sounds like he will come back in to mind Black or Nelson. I am going to concede here that they will likely stick with Eyres to ruck with Delahunty and IMO we have to play either Delahunty and Eyres or 2dads because opposition are putting a lot more time into Logan McDonald these days. McInnes can still go into the ruck with Delahunty resting forward.

So who does Payne come in for? Obvious one is Hendo who I must say can hold his head high on the weekend. Lets say that happens then that leaves Stubbs. I wouldn't drop McPartland who probably replaced him when he got injured.

Richo played well against Souths after a couple of quiet games. The backline really stood up but I would say Aussie Davis might be the vulnerable one to make way for Stubbs who adds more punch, can go in the guts or forward and add potency up there. We haven't seen his best yet only glimpses but he's only played 2 league games.

Sorry the other one is Edmonds, who I think has had a pretty charmed run for a long time. There was a 50/50 in the last qtr where he was beaten too easily. Stubbs would have given a better contest.
Thoughts?

I'm not sure why Davis' name keeps getting mentioned to be dropped, I think he has been great coming out of defense for us. He has had a couple of shaky moments but all in all has been pretty solid. I certainly wouldn't drop him for a guy who has only had 1 good game. For mine Eyers has to play. He might not be our best ruck option but it allows, Della, MCDonald and Fraser all to be in the forward line which will stretch WP defense.

DD I think you hit the nail on the head! Edmonds' has not done enough all year and has been very luckily to keep his spot, largely due to other injuries and he should make was for Payne. I watch a lot of WP games and we need to control Meadows. He is the one that gets the ball out to Nelson, Black etc and also very damaging himself if not closely checked. When Meadows is shut down - WP lose. Payne and Hendo to tag team Meadows and we are in the game.

If Clarke is dropped for Cary that will be a massive mistake, unless he is injured. Cary hasn't done a lot in the 2's to warrant a recall and Clarke has been serviceable and certainly not first cab off the rank to be dropped.

Yes Clarke is the unlucky one I think but WP has a very strong midfield and with likely slippery conditions I think the selectors have gone for bigger bodies. Meadows was damaging against us in round 5 but Payne did a very good job on Bolton against Claremont and that sort of performance is required today.

A chilly 16° today boys and girls so bring your woolies, raincoat and brolly. Says showers easing so hopefully the rain has eased by the time our game starts.
Get on your bike.

Good luck to the Demons for todays game. I'm sure most non West Perth supporters will be hoping that they can score an upset victory and progress to the preliminary final.

Yes Mike...I'll be barracking for the Dees. Obviously I won't be going up to that shithole but will watch on TV and think they can do it. The weather might help as well taking away some of the front running jerker's midfield advantage and turning into an in and under contest which they don't like. Perth by a couple of goals for mine.

Just looking at the weather coming from the NW.It looks wet-cold and windy..With Joondalup right in the firing line..
Hope these conditions favour Perth. As WP normally score high scores v Perth in there 18 wins in a row...Great to see a couple of 100 at Perths training on Friday night.

When you look at the configuration of the ground and take into account the wind direction, the oval was built wrong.

It's a game of cricket up there. If you lose the toss you lose the match.

A very brave effort against all odds boys. Could not have asked for anything more.
Hold your heads up high. You have set up a platform to build on next season and beyond.
And, you got two monkeys off our backs. A couple more to get off next season.
Thanks for a great season, albeit very short. Have a great break and look forward to next pre-season.

I honestly thought Perth had it when won leading by a point at 3 qtr time and kicking with a 4 goal gale in the last qtr.
Maybe the big effort into the breeze in the 3rd qtr took its toll in the last as WP finished the game off with more run?
