In 1981 15 players kicked over 50 goals in that season including 5 players from Claremont alone plus 3 from SF & 2 from both SD & EF-

Warren Ralph (C) 128
Simon Beasley (SD) 119
Steve Malaxos (C) 83
Bruce Monteath (SF) 82
Brad Hardie (SF) 76
Noel Carter (SF) 68
Brett Farmer (C) 67
Grant Campbell (EP) 56
Doug Simms (P) 54
Brian Adamson (WP) 53
Jim Krakouer (C) 53
Mike Richardson (SD) 52
Jim Sewell (EF) 51
Ian Thomson (EF) 51
Phil Krakouer (C) 50
We had Munro that year, thought he would have kicked over 50, I think he missed a lot of games with injury if my memory serves me correctly

DG I remember watching a Swans v Subi game at Subi oval in 1981.Swans won by less than a goal. And Subi where all over Swans in the last qtr and came back from a big 3/4 deficit.Interesting that was an era when Swans use to belt Subi in matches.1981 was a high standard competition.
Round 10,, SD 14-18 v Subi 15-7..

GTR I remember that game plus a few other close games vs Subi in that era that were all (bar 1980) at Subiaco Oval funnily enough- 1980, 1981, 1983 & 1984.
There was of course a few hidings in that era also but to be fair most took place at Basso.

BH ..Also remember Swans going for 12 in a row in 1980,+$20,000 for that. Really wet day at Bassendean v Subi. That was a tough game of footy.
Never forget that tough 81 match.Alan Sidebottom gave Mike Richardson a huge spray. Was on the boundary and never forgot that

DG: .Munro kicked over fifty goals in 1980, which as you pointed out, was a good effort in weak side. The SD game in 1981 had another unique aspect in that Subi kicked more goals and lost the game.

GTR its funny the things you remember.
I have more vivid recollections from games in the 1980s than I do from most matches this century would you believe, probably helped that we won games regularly back then opposed to the last 30 years!

Looking up stats from that season and others in that era it was not only the home & away crowds and GF's that were great in comparison to today but even the Finals matches (1st Semi, 2nd Semi & Preliminary Finals) had regularly over 30,000.
Most clubs today would struggle to get that many in a season let alone 1 game!

Given the low scorring stuff we have to endure today, it is worth noting that the PFC kicked twelve goals or up in virtually all its matches. That is to say, if everyhing else was equal, the bottom side from 1981, would win nearly every game it played today--we have the brilliant coaches to thank for such a state of affairs.
