AR both Warren Ralph (128) and Simon Beasley kicked 100 goals in 1981.
I think you may mean 1980 when Beasley (97) and Ralph (87) just missed the ton that season?

AR at a quick glance I reckon there could have been 30 players in 1981 who beat this years top goalkickers tally in the WAFL.
That to me says it all about how far backwards the game has gone in 40 years.

BH: Great post and absolutely right-- pretty sure Alex Hamilton kicked over twenty goals for the season. People should call for an end to negative play. Duda kicked 17 goals in a reserves game in 1980; we may never see such things ever again in Aussie Rules

I can remember and Freeze may have even witnessed it Darren Bennett (who was actually an Eagle at the time) playing in a WAFL Reserves game in 1987 and he kicked 23 goals or similar.
Those lucky enough to have seen the likes of Robertson, Doig, Naylor, Tyson, Scott etc that regularly kicked 15 goals or more in a game back in the 1930s-60s era would be horrified how football has turned in to a defensive minded, soccer scoreline like sport!

BH: magnificent-- the point is, that the game was meant to be high scorring; this is the purpose of 'the mark' and four scorring posts instead of two in rugga codes; in a way, too, the four posts should encourage skillful play because 10,0 beats 0.10. We live in strange word lads, because over the same time--a more defensive game, soccer--has made itself more attacking:

three points for a win
no back pass to goalie
less stricted interprrtation of the off-side rule

Yes amazing scores and goal kicking feats. Even though they played 3 additional games in the H & A back then, current players are lauded if they can crack 50 from 18 games, thats 2.7 goals per game. Robertson averaged 7.4 goals per game in his record breaking season '68 I think and thats in a pretty average team. Averaged 5 across his whole career

What a wonderful era for Wa footy. It started in the Wafl 1960's Golden Era.And lasted over 20 years till the early 1980's,all through the 70's also.
Maby if we didn't invent run on football over here. And move the ball multiple time quicker which increase scoring.Maby the Vic clubs would of been less interested in our player's.That style of footy was suited to our larger Wafl grounds and historically drier winter's.

Just had a look Ark South Finished
14wins +7 losses and 3rd on the ladder.
Lost to 6 sides , Claremont twise.
East Fremantle didn't beat South in 1981.
Claremont had a great season and an amazing 4 weeks
Round 16 defeated Perth by 161 points
Round 17 defeated Subiaco by 99 points
Round 18 defeated East Perth by 101 points
Round 19 defeated West Perth by 135 points.
Surprising really as both Subi and ep had pretty good sides that year
