Gary Fathers came from the Marist juniors I think, he had a reasonably effective but very awkward kicking style but he was a terrific overhead mark. A bit in the style of "legs" Merrifield but not in his class of course.

Gtr Munza came from Footscray and then played in the summer comp in Darwin that year and then came to Subi after the summer comp finished. Ark I put a pic of Fathers on the previous page, as SS said he was a strong mark but awkward kicking style, much like Munza but a bit more accurate

Yes he did Ark. Another forward with an awkward kick back then was our fringe player Brendon McFaull, from hawthorn I think

DG: did you go to the  game where Subi beat the Tigers in 1981? Our friend, Munro kicked 6.3, I think.

AR & DG you blokes had a number of big burly forwards in that era from my memory the likes of Munro, McFaull, Vic Melville, Fathers, Rod Brown occasionally, whilst Ken Marshall not overly big was definitely powerfully built for his size.
When Haydn Bunton came on board he was probably the instigator for a more mobile forward line utilising the likes of Breman, Dean, Sells, Georgiades and even Laurie Keene who was a handful for defenders with not only his height but his mobility for a tall man in the key forward positions.

BH: Good analysis old son, we may have been a bit slow up forward in the early eighties, it is funny what you miss at the time. Also, as you know, SD, for its part, had a  good ballance of speed and bulk in the forward line. Hutton/Sidebottom, plus others, of course
