Also capacity of 16K - why not make it a perfect 20K.
I presume the Victoria Pavilion is heritage listed so it can't be demolished.

Of course it is heritage listed its an iconic 1899 structure , it wont be going anywhere and will be a major feature of the ground, fully renovated and with the oval much closer will be great.

To get the capacity from 16k to 20 you certainly would not have to demolish the Vic Pav.

Once that montrosity dockers thing is gone and the hospital end totally cleared and with talk of the wall on the prison side being removed there is ample room. Obviously the current SFFC members will go and I would say the old press box as well.
A modern stand and facility could easily stretch from the Vic Pav all the way around behind the goals at the hospital end.

Bazza I did not suggest that it should or would be demolished particularly given Basso has the Bill Walker and Macca stands.  I simply pointed out in response to your query about the ground's capacity that it might have an impact on the capacity of the ground.

Yep - it may well be that the only things to remain are the grand old girl and the Gerovich gates
Don't rule out some form of upper scale housing to an extent depending on FCC approvals even office quarters mate
Do have fears we could lose our old manual scoreboard in the scheme of things
Very much tongue in cheek Southerner (as I like our manual scoreboards) Perth may have a second hand electronic scoreboard going cheap for sale.

The jailhouse side of Fremantle Oval and the stretch to the giant Moretons is the unknown quantity - it has the potential to be anything from housing to office complexes even Medical Facilities
If that was to be undertaken the scoreboard would be under threat - it is one of , if not the , best "see-able"  ones in the league
The Moretons are another almost untouchable come to think of it - I believe they are protected in some kind too

The Reilly complex has long been earmarked for redevelopment and it will occur for certain - the frontage to the terrace is a sought after commodity
Chance of some underground parking in all of this too

Yep the Morton Bay Figs are heritage listed.

Was just thinking other day how many trees Claremont lost in the change, a lot of green townscape cover gone.

I think you'll still have the outer scoreboard side in all reality mate - it's the Port side of the ground and Hospital end that is in the barrel and sought after
Hoping there is some works to spruce up the Scoreboard flank there's good opportunity to get some public amenities fitted - it has great potential for even better viewing perches

Some proper seating on the outer would be fantastic and keeping the scoreboard - also like to see some work done to the Town Hall end stand behind the goals to bring it up to a gold standard facility
The clubrooms are going and the rest is up for redeveloping - possibly we'll see a brand new Media room as part of the new buildings and ones for the coaches
Won't be a Claremont or Perth setup from info - it's an amphitheatre for footy with opportunities for multi-use
Getting rid of the council carpark is a must do - it's just an eyesore & we don't need at the footy with kids around mate

Hopefully, if South Freo is redeveloped the ground is moved to align with the Victoria Pavilion.  The outer is redeveloped to keep the amphitheatre feeling.  Obviously the club rooms would also be new.

Also, what I think in an absolute necessity is that there are commercial opportunities that provide a non-football revenue stream for South Freo.

Oh great....another facility like Lathlain and Claremont. No outer bank.....no atmosphere....capacity down to less than 10 thousand. Yuck! Fremantle is great.....only needs a few deft touches...not a reduction...the 2020 grand final proved that

mate it wont be anything like Claremont of Lathlain, The capacity is set at a minimum of 16K, so the vast majority of the ground will remain as stadium ground, the concept is for the eastern side to be turned into Grass and Tree lined terrace, the entire Oval moved to the left to align with the Vic Pav. The SFFC and old Dockers building to be demolished and turned into a state of the art members stand for sffc and ffc womens side with shared gym/community facilties and some commercial let spaces.

High grade TV standard lights and a new media facility will complete the picture.

Fremantle has far more heritage considerations than either Claremont or Lathlain, so no bulldozers will clear the place.

But the most important statement is on a big commitment to crowd capacity, 16,000 is locked in, so it will be the biggest highest quality WAFL facility in the state.

Personally I would of thought the perfect size was 20,000 that would make it the ideal "second" Australian Rules Venue in the State.  That would lock it in as the new home of WAFL finals, AFL pres seasons, womens football , country weeks  - you name it.

I hope so mate. Sometimes when I hear redevelopment - since Lathlain - I worry. For me, that "redevelopment" has been an eyesore and a disaster. They didn't need to do it that way.

That scoreboard and outer bank was an iconic part of WA football.

I've got no idea wtf happened with Lathlain, its been two or 3 years now and the thing is a shambles, the old stand is there looking worse then ever the much vaunted plans have not come to fruition.
