Club has announced that a $40 Million plan to refresh & improve Fremantle Oval is underway - funds required are to be sourced actively by the club itself with assistance along the way from the FCC
This has the potential to make our historic ground a centrepiece for sport (and other events if so be it) and a major attraction point for all people of this state to the Port precinct and of course the surrounding areas
Detailed information will be filtered out as it becomes available & relevant but this a great filip for old Fremantle Town as a whole
Great stuff!

Long overdue Southerner, should have happened 5 years ago but The FCC decided to take over the Old Freo clubrooms hence delaying the project, but if it's anything like the original concepts it will be a great place to watch footy and a great multi use facility.

This must be plan 27 for the redevelopment in the last 20 years, I hope it comes off but will believe it when it starts.

And If we do we don't want a half arsed half finished job like Lathlain, with a new bit and then an old junk yard left over stand with bare star pickets left on another side.

Was at Claremont Saturday - what a great members bar and dollar deck.

Also capacity of 16K - why not make it a perfect 20K.

I presume the Victoria Pavilion is heritage listed so it can't be demolished.

Hoping some decent refurbishment can be achieved with the old girl mate - it could be a very good showpiece of history if something can be done with care & class

Great news for SFFC and Fremantle as a whole.

Better facilities for all WAFL clubs can only be a good thing for the competition, clubs financial sustainability and trying to attract bigger crowds.

Of course it is heritage listed its an iconic 1899 structure , it wont be going anywhere and will be a major feature of the ground, fully renovated and with the oval much closer will be great.

To get the capacity from 16k to 20 you certainly would not have to demolish the Vic Pav.

Once that montrosity dockers thing is gone and the hospital end totally cleared and with talk of the wall on the prison side being removed there is ample room. Obviously the current SFFC members will go and I would say the old press box as well.
A modern stand and facility could easily stretch from the Vic Pav all the way around behind the goals at the hospital end.

Yep - it may well be that the only things to remain are the grand old girl and the Gerovich gates
Don't rule out some form of upper scale housing to an extent depending on FCC approvals even office quarters mate
Do have fears we could lose our old manual scoreboard in the scheme of things

The long term plan was to replace the current members area with a mixed commercial set up that went allt he way to south Terrace, but with Police taking over the land that the former Stan Riley was on now a carpark for a new Station, it cuts it back quite a bit, I am sure there still be some mixed viable use a lot like claremont, there is tonne of room along the prison side to delvelope into very good grassed terrace and covered stand, there a now barely used Fremantle Hospital Staff Carpark up in the corner that can be incorporated as well. As you say the loss of the scoreboard is the only downer, but I am sure it can be saved.
