It was reported earlier in the week that Footy legend Tom Hafey had taken ill. The news to come out of Melbourne today is he has taken a turn for the worse and has been placed in palliative care. Its sad news for the footy community that another legend is nearing the end of his own last quarter.....

Heres a pic of Tom in the early days sorry about the Resolution from a newspaper

Thomas Stanley Raymond Hafey (born 5 August 1931) is a former Australian rules football Victorian Football League player and coach. Hafey played for Richmond between 1953 and 1958, and coached four clubs—Richmond, Collingwood, Geelong and Sydney—between 1966 and 1988, leading Richmond to a total of four premierships - 1967, 1969, 1973 & 1974. Hafey was an inaugural inductee into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1996, named coach of Richmond's team of the century in 1998, and given the AFL Coaches Association Coaching Legend Award in 2011.

Hafey is a legend. Even at 82 and with cancer he would be fitter & stronger than most people. A renown tea drinker too. Hated the grog all the way.
Fellas like him helped mould the Australian game. He is a part of history and always will be.

Like dear Lou Richards. Yes he was a Collingwood icon but as a commentator he was totally unbiased. A 100% professional, unlike a certain Collingwood commentator of today.

Tom Hafey has stated that he has not once touched alcohol. Very impressive whilst living amongst a nation of drunkards.

Will never forget his words with regards to preparation of the body and mind. A life lesson more than a football one. RIP Tommy Hafey
