A true man's man for sure and positive all the way. A VFL legend for sure.

Lets hope though that the WA media give as much coverage to our very own WAFL legends when their time is up as they have given a VFL legend such as Hafey.

Not speaking ill of anyone here on purpose but he was a Victorian legend not really well known by most in WA, only through the VFL dominance in the AFL today.

Just hope the Michaels, Peakes, Buckenaras, Dempseys, Cables etc get the same recognition here.

RIP Mr Hafey.

Yes I notice this factor as well Dogman, the entire thing has become VFL centric, sadly it has highjacked WA tradition, most youngster know more about the Brownlow Winners of the past now in WA than they know about the Sandovers.

dogman take the blinkers off for a moment. "not really well known by most in WA" - how do you know this? - this is your perception of the matter and it does appear to be narrow minded. should people in W.A not acknowledge the passing of a great person because they are not from W.A?

Most logical post I have read on here. Its not Tommy's fault that 90% of the football media works and lives in Melbourne.

An old fashioned bloke that players would run through a brick wall for.
I'm a West Australian and I knew about him.
Thankfully I'm old enough to remember those Richmond premierships.
Used to follow the VFL on the little black box with passion.
Great days.

Tommy rest in peace, legend.

Just to back both your comments up here....I had cancer scare from a bone growth in my quad area as a 16yo kid about 6 weeks away from our finals and needed to go under the knife which I was refusing because I wanted to play finals. My mum went out of her way to contact Tommy Hafey, she didn't know him personally but admired him as she had a soft spot for Richmond. A week later I get a call from this football great who gave me 20mins of his time to talk about what I would need to do to build my strength up after the op and then proceeded to talk about how fit i would need to get if I wanted to reach the top level in preparing my body & mind. I never made it as I wasn't near good enough but I never have forgotten that conversation, more because he gave me the time of day than the advice he offered. He might not have been from WA but he was sure known here. Even by mum who could probably name only 10 footballers at best.
