Speaking to my brother who lives in Melbourne, their is a lot of chat around that WA is the preferred (only) venue for the GF. Also a lot of comment about how good the atmosphere was for the WC v Freo game with 50k plus in attendance. The Players assoc rep,  Dangerfield has stated that the players desperately want to play the GF in front of a big crowd. Not many other options at the moment, maybe Adelaide oval but they are still at 50%. Might even be the whole finals series here with all 8 teams in a bubble for the duration or until each team is eliminated. Can we do that for initially around 250 players + all the support staff and hangers on? Plus providing secure training facilities for each participating club, thats a big maybe.
Been thinking about the finals.  If we gotta have the Mexicans trooping around the city for the gf, may as well hold all the finals here.  They’ll get more income and a good show on the day.  If we run a bit short on accommodation, me and the missus have a couple of spare rooms…..

Haha "58's BnB!!

I dont think anyone bar the players and limited numbers of coaching staff and officials will get a pass in. No partners, so not sure they will get a full finals series hub in WA, might be a bit of fifo for ES clubs, but would need to comply with strict home iso when in their home states and thats the worry with teams based in Vic and New South Covid.

If the AFL is scheduled to be played in Perth, the AFL should be told that any breach by anyone associated with one of the teams involved in the GF will result in the entirety of that AFL contingent in Perth placed in quarantine until they board an aeroplane out of Perth.  I would also like to see a bond of at least $50 million that is forfeited if there is a breach.

I see SA are making a big pitch for the GF.  They’ll probably get it, the vicco football powers aren’t really sure where WA is….play it safe and give it to SA.

Yes having it in Adelaide would certainly make things a little less complicated. The only thing going for Perth is that it would be a neutral venue for everyone whereas Port Adelaide would definitely have the inside running if they had it in SA with two home finals already locked in. The Vics wouldnt like that although a bit rich coming from them given their teams always have the home ground advantage if they are playing at the MCG in a normal year.

Daughter lives in Adelaide and she said they have had a 15k crowd limit at AO recently, so that would have to change for finals, particularly the GF. Optus can have a fullhouse of near 60K, Adelaide would need to allow a full house which I think is low mid 50's.

There was a tweet from a local sports reporter this morning which indicated that the AFL has instructed Melbourne and Geelong to be prepared to go to Perth after their games this weekend. This would indicate that Optus could well be hosting a semi final and/or a preliminary final. We should know where the Grand Final is going to be played this week sometime.
