Had to smile at the half time show in tonight’s game. I think it was brayshaw who mentioned that all states were on notice for the GF venue.  Gill the Dill doesn’t understand that he is not the anointed emperor of WA.  Gil, you will be told whether you are allowed to have it in WA, not tell us you will!!!

He also suggested if they could get a paltry 20 thousand at the MCG they’d hold it there rather than a full house elsewhere which Carey quite rightly commented on as ridiculous. But if not who wants to get down on their knees and beg us to hold it at their stadium? Get stuffed Dill

TOO, the Ch 7 coverage mentioned getting the GF at Optus would be a tourism boom?????........... ah, no chance of that as the only ones attending will be locals, the only outsiders will be the players and officials, who will be in an airtight quarantine bubble.
It would be a sell out at Optus if it happened, 55-60k at premium prices, it would be a boom for the Optus oval management and the bar and food outlet concession holders, that's about it.

The Government would do ok out of all the massive fines they will get from the Vicco (most likely) punters trying to sneak in to WA. If WA did host the GF the Govt should immediately announce $50k++ fines for anyone illegally entering the state up to 2 weeks prior to the game, but I get the feeling Sneakers will be very cautious and imho wont want it here. WA are used to watching the GF live on telly.

The WA government should tell the AFL that if they want the AFL GF in WA, it reserves the right to cancel it at any time.  It should also ensure that the AFL will receive no financial compensation if the WA government makes a decision to cancel the GF.

I think that’s a given swan.  Macca is not scared of the knockers of the WA process, least of all the boss of the AFL who thinks he is mightier than the sword!!!!!

The problem is McGoo hasn't got a sporting bone in his body and couldn't care less about football in this proud football state. Barnett would have been all over this to ensure Perth hosted the AFL GF.

McGoo will go down the path of whatever gives the best political advantage. Is it going all out to get the GF in Perth or showing that he's supposedly strong facing off against the AFL heavyweights? My guess is that he'd rather ignore the huge global exposure WA would get by hosting the GF to show that he's the guy with all the power. Forget about the WA footy community who sees it as a once in a lifetime opportunity if it means more political points scoring.

You blokes make very good points that are hard to ignore.  My main worry with it being here, are the idiots that will go to any length to get over here and avoid being checked for Covid.  We’ve already seen what these fuckers will do.

Don’t agree. You really reckon tens of millions of people watch the afl grand final around the world and that a lot of them will be that impressed by a stadium that they will say to themselves “I’m booking myself a ticket to Perth” and give us this huge tourism boom? In this current world?

Then why do we pay huge rights to play Bledislo Cup games and STOO matches at Optus, even during this pandemic? Why did Colin Barnett say it’s worth more to the city of Perth to call the stadium Perth Stadium than the 50 million I think Optus is paying us for the naming rights over 10 years? Why does our government pay mega stars like Roger Federa and Serena Williams huge appearance fees for them to play the Hopman Cup here instead of other tournaments? One word, EXPOSURE. 

And grand finals are remembered and replayed for decades down the track. Only a numpty from a rugby state wouldn’t understand that.
