Agree with what you say, BH. Totally disproportionate penalties.

Unfortunately, and it ain't gunna change as we proceed, the payer(s) of the CA piper will more and more call the tune. The organisation is a captive of both the sponsors, and the BCCI. :(

Of course it is Anchor it is rife in world cricket anyone who follows the game knows it how on earth do you think sides get reverse swing especially the likes of SA from the likes of 2 time convicted ball tamperer Philander and Rabada after only 18 overs!
CA have been totally sucked in with this knee jerk response and reaction whilst the rest of the cricketing world will go on doing the same as!

so based on your comments Aussie Olympians should be taking PED's because the Russians, East Germans, Chinese, various yanks and several others have been doing it? Australian TDF cyclists should be doing likewise because the greatest of all time Lace Armstrong was a serial cheat? your logic is nonsense.

Fair dinkum you are trying to equate systematic doping regimes with a bit of ball scuffing up  you really need to get out of that gated golden triangle occasionally and into the big wide real world!

nope...just comparing like to like...if you think its ok for aussies to tamper with the ball because others are doing it then justify the other analogies.

BH as you say there have been many a ball tampering offender....some repeating offenders...why is that so?....because the penalty is a few demerit points, perhaps a one match ban and a pocket money fine of even 50K is nothing to these guys esp Smith or Warner they earn huge 6 -7 figure sums.......I just hope the case of these three being punished heavily will be a MAJOR deterrent for any future Aust players from thinking about ball tampering...isn't that a good thing?.....Who cares what other countries do....Aust can only control their players...I think Aust stance will go a long way in restoring some respect for Aust cricket in this whole matter.....at least we can say now our country has stepped up and done something about it....unlike other countries who have been happy to play ostrich....

might be overkill in your eyes and many others like Warnie....but hey someone needed to take a stance to eradicate ball tampering from the sport....just bowl the farking thing, hit the farking thing and play the game.....

at least we don't have to see Warner's ugly mug on the telly any more...amazing to think the ICC hadn't even implicated him in the whole thing and from the sounds of it he was the main perp......think CA is spot on with its penalties.....still amazed Lehmann kept his job though.....think Aust behaviour hasn't improved under his watch.....maybe with Warner gone it may now....angry little ant he was....but I do think Lehmann has allowed this culture to develop to some extent

The penalties are the culmination of 20-25 years of appalling behaviour by the Australian cricket team and their holier than thou attitude that it is okay for them to do whatever they like. Perhaps now the Australian cricket team will not behave as boorish as they have done in the past.

the Australian cricket team has a n opportunity to clean up their act and one certainly hopes they will.

CA needs to appoint a new coach that doesn't think that any action is acceptable provided the team wins. The current coach doesn't fit that criterion nor does the current WA coach.

I don't, maybe he should have thought a lot harder about what he was doing. Your giving him a leave pass, that's wrong.

The fallout is having a massive financial impact not just on those implicated but it will hit the hip pockets of everyone who plays the game as sponsors are lining up to withdraw their sponsorship of the game at national level.

Ironic considering how the Australian team stood defiantly to demand a better deal, no doubt the boofhead who was the "brains" behind this scandal, would have been one of the loudest in demanding more money. This will have a ripple effect down through Shield ranks as there will be less money in the pot to go around.

While the penalties may be harsh in some peoples eyes, I feel they got what they deserved. At the end of the day they cheated.....Gloss over that how you like and compare it to other situations but they cheated and got caught. That will be the worst penalty they have to deal with for the rest of their lives.

You can not change a culture until you hit rock bottom, This is now Australia's chance to change their culture.....Sweep a broom through the place and start again with 11 guys that want to play hard and fair, but don't need to win at all costs.

The next 12 months will be interesting to watch

Yep...agree with everything there PH. The other thing those crying foul over the severity of the penalty should remember is that Smith and Bancroft actually lied to the world during their press conference. They said they used yellow tape and it was something the leadership group came up with....both straight out lies. It took the internal investigation to uncover what really happened as there was no way we'd be getting it from Smith and Bancroft.
