Gee Barnard had a few bizarre things to say about SD in a radio interview the other week after Waite had left something about "thats just what SD do" and yet overlooked the fact EP have recruited SD boys Fullgrabbe (swapped for Waite), Pescud & Dean this summer alone.
Mike the only reason some of those fringe EP boys moved to their near neighbour SD (Slater, Wityk, Freddie, Payne) was because they were aligned to the Eagles (for the 2nd time) and werent getting an opportunity there, otherwise I have no doubt they would still be there.

beasly you should be embarrassed with your comment about the four players who left because of the alignment.to say that they would be at east perth is disingenuous.of the four only Stephen payne is playing wafl this year.freddie has retired and was battling to get a league game in his last two year 9 games and 6 games).steve wityk played 9 league games between 2015-2017 for swannies.jackson slater played 29 games for swans in 4 seasons between 2015-2018.you can't blame them for exploring their opportunities at swans but history will show that they got games at a struggling club.a few others just played reserves for swans.as for this year it seems three east perth boys at swans and three at east perth.it will be interesting to see if any have a impact this year.

Why would I be embarrassed Chaddy?
My club hasnt aligned with the Eagles once let alone twice!
As for those 4 boys named before I doubt very much they would have ever left EP if they had not sold themselves out for Alignment MkII.

your arguament was that they would still be there and only one is still playing wafl footy this year.slater and wityk could have come back last year as barnard gave a open invitation to former players to try out for the senior list.only howlett fronted and played some practice matches and decided the grass is greener on the other side.i doubt either slater or wityk would be at east perth even if we were not aligned.not best 22 players.the fact that they got games at swans is a reflection of how bad swans list was during our alignment years.

Boys Boys we both found ourselves in the bottom 2 quinella last year and we're squabbling like 2 homeless people fighting over a discarded half eaten Big Mac Burger, the players we are talking about are'nt exactly prime WAGYU BEEF!!!!!! Lets hope all players do well at theyre cross over clubs, who have both recruited strongly, and climbs up the ladder by both clubs would give our ailing WAFL comp a much needed shot in the arm.

It would be nice for East Perth and Swans to play in a final. I doubt it will happen this year but you never know. The last time was the 2010 preliminary final at Bassendean Oval was the best WAFL game I have seen atmosphere wise since the 1980s and there certainly hasn't been a game like that since.

It was a great day and game, the Swannies and Royals games are always good value.

As for Barnard, I think that he is shooting at everyone but being a Bunbury boy ( I think) Swans are near neighbours and always worthy of a shoot. I would be surprised if there was any maliciousness just stirring the pot.

Yes Mikeh the atmosphere that day was like being in yesteryear, which brings me back to the point''where have they all gone''because it was'nt just the elderly WAFL diehards who attended that day as the crowd was quite a broad mix of ages, but getting back to Marks point i believe Barney couldv'e been a bit SALTY due to possible attempts to entice one of our ''WAGYU' class players.

I was happy to see all the players move on to Swans for opportunity I didn’t rate any of them. We had the alignment so definitely can’t cry foul. I think the acrimony comes from the fact our ex colts coach is constantly on the phone trying to poach players such as Dobson, Willcocks etc.

I have often made mention that some of my favourite WAFL memories as a kid were of the SD vs EP games in the early 1980s at both Perth Oval & Bassendean Oval, electric atmosphere, full house and always close hard fought games to boot.

At that 2010 Prelim Final at Basso there was over 15k inside the ground after they had to throw open the gates in the 1st qtr as there was still fans lined up all the way down Old Perth Rd & Guildford Rd to get in.
Unfortunately certainly in SD case we have been nowhere near that level since on the field which helps attract the fans although when we did play EP again in a 1st Semi Final in 2012 or 2013 at Basso there was another big finals crowd that day.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Swans v Perth final - been some years since an all eastern districts final
