Yes very rare in my time following SD Freeze but hopefully they are of similar quality calibre as Fisher & Anderson this year.
I guess you have to replace the 20 odd current SD listed players we have had drafted to afl clubs and we can expect at least another 2 or 3 to go this year again and unlike other clubs a large % of our drafted players have long afl careers and are not back at SD within a year or 2!

Yep won't argue there BH....since the 2000 draft I read some where SD have had 12 players play 100+ games of AFL, with 2 of those playing 200 games + (Rance & Jetta). EF have had a few also, with a few of those 200+ gamers still going in Kennedy, Ryder and Hooker...and Sheppard is a few games away from 200, whilst HT retired a few weeks back on 280, with Simon Black playing the most with 320 games....for SD I think Embley has played the most on 250.

In the last 10 years I think SF and Cl have had the most come back within a short period of time of being drafted....much to their good fortune....though EF have had a few of late in Snadden, Strnadica, Eardley, Jansen and Jono Marsh for 2 years, before getting redrafted...swings in roundabouts I guess.

From the West Online
Former Port Adelaide forward Jesse Palmer will call Steel Blue Oval home after opting to join his former Northern Blues teammates Sam Fisher and Frank Anderson at Swan Districts.

Box Hill big man Chris Jones is another VFL talent headed to the Swans.

They look like handy additions

Chris Jones is apparently the nephew of Dean Jones - RIP. Be interesting to see how many more VFL boys come over to the WAFL. Jones signed with Port Melbourne this year, but didn't play with the comp shutting down.

BHP pulling its sponsorship is a big loss for you lot. Apparently it represents a couple of hundred $k in management fees each year which be hard to cover. Bugger...any sponsor dropping out of the WAFL is not a good thing imo.

I hadn't heard that BC, that is disappointing for the club and the WAFL

Yep...not good news Mike. Here's an extract from The West...

Swan Districts are about to take a massive financial hit with mining giant BHP ending its multi-million dollar Pilbara sponsorship and community engagement program.
The V Swans program provided Swans with annual revenue of $2 million – and sometimes significantly more - since it started 14 years ago.
But BHP informed the club recently that it would not extend the current agreement beyond this year after reviewing its “social investment strategies”.
“It will be disastrous,” a Swans insider said.
“V Swans provided substantial management fees to the club as well as direct sponsorships.”
Swans financial statements last year showed they made a profit of $194,000 from their community programs while the previous year’s accounts revealed the club received $283,683 in management fees.

I spoke to a swans person today and there’s no problem with finances but the club is shattered that the staff that work in the in the north west can’t continue their community work. The kids are the ones I feel for.

Hard to figure out why such a successful programme would be ended by BHP, not like they are short of money or profits have dropped given the high ore prices. That BHP sponsorship was almost right up there with Subi's former sponsorship deal with Western Underwriters that went back to the early 80's, those sorts of deals are like hens teeth.
