More to the point why is the WAFL's perennial top club even looking in the WAFL's bottom club's zone for players to top up their Reserves?

You could also ask why the WAFL's bottom club isn't looking in its own zone for potential league players...Upton is a good chance to make it into Subi's best 22 so would waltz into Swans.

Who knows BC. Maybe they did identify him as a prospect but he got a better offer? Seems strange that they don't look at clubs other than Subiaco

He last played for Swans in 2012 and has been dominating the NPFL for a few years so it's not as though he was unknown to your recruiters. I don't think there'd be anything too big on the table to get him down given he's 27 and untried at senior WAFL level...maybe a job offer or the like which I'm sure Swans could have arranged as well...as you say, it does strike me as a bit odd too. Maybe your recruiters were just didn't go at him hard enough...who knows.

I wouldn't criticise any individual player who wants to come from the country and play for Subiaco. Why wouldn't they, if they can crack the league team they are more than likely going to be multiple premiership players and they will have much more in the way of resources than if they were at any other club. But these moves when taken together reinforce the structural inequity that will eventually kill the WAFL competition without long term intervention and highlights the futility of the knee jerk recruiting rules imposed on Subiaco after the latest farcical grand final. Subiaco have found another way to top up their player stocks and their dominance will continue unabated into the next decade.

I'm not sure but I think you would agree that there is something inherently wrong with a club that has been so dominant as Subiaco recruiting players from another clubs zone and that same club has been in the bottom part of the ladder for the last 5 years. Not going to even up the competition I would have thought. How about developing and promoting Subiaco colts players who mind you won a flag a few years ago. Also there must be many potential league players in your country zone?

Neither of them are exactly household names but I still ask the question...if these guys are such prized recruits, why didn't your club snap them up as they've been around for a few years? In answer to your question, the colts are coming through and I expect a few more to get opportunities this year.

Surely there can be no problem with Subi picking up fringe players? With Matthews and Sutherland on board, there will be no respite from ruck duties for Delahunty. Upton might be ok, and good luck to him, but it is a huge step up from the country to WAFL at the best of times, and the Pilbara is far from the strongest country comp.
