The last 15 minutes of the 3rd quarter when we were kicking into a slight breeze was crucial. A couple of bits of magic from Tarcye Stewart and Ricky Cary got Swans back into it and then in the last quarter, our mids got on top and Cary, Jamie Bennell Noble,Stewart, Crowley and Ellis provided a good contest up forward. Our defence was tight all day once again led by Kirk Ugle who consistently punches above his weight and several times I saw him battling against 2 opponents and often winning. Riggio came in and played as if he hadn't missed any games and made up for the absence of Ellard.
Well done to the guys and we are now 3 games inside the top 5 with 4 games to go. Finals football is very close now.
Young Taylor looked the part when he got the ball and Taryce Stewart played his best game for a few months, he is definitely an X factor type footballer who AFL clubs would be attracted to.
Great to see the colts and ressies win too. Freddie looked like he had a good day in his comeback.

Mikeh you named quite a few players let me add a couple more. Warrick Wilson showed in the last quarter what a player he could be if he showed the same application and intensity over 4 quarters. Also, one shouldn't underestimate the influence of Corey Gault had on the great result today.

And one other that is becoming more and more our benchmark for commitment Todd Banfield.

Just illustrates the point a team doesn't need 4 trillion ball disposals to win a game of footy. Swan Districts having a significant 77 less Ball Disposals, and yet enjoy a very well deserved 16 point win. :)

Absolutely agree Swan42, there were no weak links at all in the team today. Banfield was a key mover in the last quarter, both when he had the ball and when he was chasing and harassing Peel players.
Would you like to do the votes this week? May be a tough job as so many players contributed to the win.

I did the voting for the last game vs SF 42 so I will leave it up to either yourself, GTR, Mike, SD, MO et al to have a shot although if it is indeed yourself 42 I am hoping to see young Sam Taylor recieve a vote for a very steady League debut down back! :)

First quarter was a bit of an arm wrestle, both sides were turning the ball over a fair bit and bombing the ball into their 50 which made it easy for both defences.Swans with a one point lead at quarter time.

Much of the second quarter was played in driving rain although it did brighten up towards half time. Swans really couldn't put together much co-ordinated football in this term and Peel seemed to be getting more numbers to the contest. Our defence was holding up well though and this is what kept us in the game. Taberner was chasing kicks up the ground and Dawson appeared to be their only dangerous tall forward. Peel should have been more than 5 points up at half time.

The signs were ominous in the 3rd for Swans as Peel kicked the first two goals to get out to a 19 point lead. Apart from Pearce, I thought most of the Dockers players were not playing well and their main drive was coming from the Peel based players such as Ugle and O'Brien.

Swans dug deep at this stage and a fairly lucky free kick in the goal square to Slater sparked a revival with a classy running goal to Stewart, a snap from the pocket by Cary and an opportunist major to Jamie Bennell. So we were only 2 points down at 3 quarter time with the aid of a freshening breeze in the last quarter.

The first 10 minutes of the final term was tense and both teams had their opportunities but once Swans hit the front, we got a few goals quickly and suddenly we were 15 points up with 15 minutes to play. Banfield played a blinder in this quarter and his clean skills and pressure came to the fore. Peel were one down with Harley Bennell rested and their onballers tired a bit. Swans could have probably made the game safe earlier if Cary and Bennell had kicked relatively straightforward set shots.

This was a very hard fought victory against a team that was ahead of us on the ladder and was the 3rd victory out of 4 against the alignment teams. We now only need one more win out of the last four to qualify for the finals but maybe now the boys need to be aiming for a qualifying final spot or at very least an elimination final at Bassendean. Subiaco might be too tough next week but victories in their last 3 games against East Perth, Claremont and East Fremantle would definitely put Swans in the frame for 3rd spot.

Mike great wrap up of the game yesterday...just a couple of points to note from the above...Slater was paid a free kick as he was being held out of contesting the ball well and truly more than 20m away from the ball behind the goal line (one of the few correct decisions given all day in a bewildering umpiring display to say the least) and we were also down a player for the second half with young Cipro unfortunately injuring his shoulder.
Also Naughton & Collins were easily Peelmantle's best 2 players yesterday as they both stopped many a Swans foray forward with strong intercept marking, young Naughton is going to be a very very good player unless AFL coaches manage to fark up his natural football instincts as i have noted they do quite often with naturally talented footballers!
