From what I could see Subiaco were in 2nd gear for most of the game. Schofield can carry on as much as he likes but the game basically meant nothing to them whereas it was season on the line stuff for Swans. Yet Subiaco still only lost by a point. Swans tackling was a highlight and anybody can be pressured if that intensity is maintained for a whole game. The trick is to do it every week and nobody has shown that they can do this consistently. Some of the Swans players may struggle to get up next week given the effort they had to put up yesterday.
Good luck to anyone trying to beat Subiaco in the finals, they are the best team by some distance as the ladder indicates.

I disagree Mike and think you are being way too charitable to $ubi they had a strong team in and regardless of ladder positions wouldn't want to flirt with form so close to the pointy end, saying they were in second gear is complete rubbish and disrespectful to our effort yesterday. I saw two teams going at it hammer and tongs equally. In fact John Townsend described it as the best WAFL game since the 2010 GF. And as far as the injury excuse thrown up by the opposition, well we have our fair share and had our fair share too. We had a group of players playing for the jumper yesterday and not their wallets! ;)
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Warwick Wilson, Jason Daniels would be the 2 on the selection table Mudlark although doubt they are in our best 22 at this very moment in time. Young Jesse Turner needs a bit more time but glad the club have blooded him at this stage as he has something to work with whilst David McKay will be considered if we have injuries but hard to see him winning his way back in after Alby Deans last 2 games at ressie and league level. Aside from Ugle and Houghton we had our best 22 at the moment out there yesterday for sure.

Not being disrespectful of our effort at all Swandog, it was a magnificent performance and I was just as excited as you were. Just trying to put a bit of perspective into it. There is a reason why they are 5 games clear of Swans on the ladder and I don't think they were at their best yesterday. Yes we can say that we forced them to look ordinary by our tackling but it took our absolute best effort to beat them on our home ground by a point. Whether we ( or anyone) can replicate this effort at Leederville or Subiaco Oval in the finals is open to conjecture.

Agree with mike on this one Swandog but also acknowledge that on any given day we are capable of beating any team in this comp if we are at our absolute best.

Terrific effort by swans and a great day of WAFL footy. Disappointed to lose but had the best $15 of entertainment you could wish for . And I saw the best mullet ever

NFI....I concur BH

Personally I thought we played some of the dumbest footy I have ever seen in the last 5 to 10 minutes of the second quarter. However, well done to the boys for fighting back in the third quarter and tremendous character was shown in the last quarter.

The animal nursery in front of the members was a good touch, pity it was such a lousy day so there weren't many kids. One of the lambs was hilarious, bleating at rather opportune moments in the game, I think he was adding his voice to the can bar when they didn't like an umpires decision. The piglet looked a little nervous when bacon burgers were mentioned as a canteen option :P

We were lucky that the breeze abated in the early part of the last quarter which enabled us to set up a 2 and a half goal lead and then hang on for dear life at the end! Keeps us in the hunt. The loss won't have any negative impact on Subiaco at all, in fact it may get them focussed towards the finals. Hopefully Broady's injury isn't as bad as it looked.

You were lucky in a lot of ways today mike but winners are grinners. Good job.

Being monstered in the tackles aint luck..that is the blue print to beat your mob who are still raging favs for the flag.
I reckon our count of 108 tackles would almost be a season high across the comp

108 tackles, bloody hell that's enormous and your guys obviously followed the script coz that's what Harding mentioned in the West pre-game. It was always going to be that sort of game though given the conditions but it's one thing to have the intention and another to carry it out, like I said previously, one team knew it was playing for it's season.

Both sides were equally intent on trying to win this game, Schofield was scathing at 3Qt giving his side an audible blast, hardly stuff from a team with so called nothing to play for! Its no coincidence that in losses to SD and WP the Lions have been monstered in the tackling pressure from the opposition and I suggest this is one of the key factors for any side coming up against them from here on, its a wide open flag race but still dependant on the AFL ressies frauds ins/outs etc

A touch of white line fever maybe mate?!
