I thought exactly the same thing when we were late out onto the ground! Said to the person next to me that we will be on the back foot and was correct.

We really only played 40-50 minutes of decent footy.
The 1st term was disgraceful and I thought we went too wide and too slow and that was partly because our fwds didn't want to get up the ground. Numerous times we got it to 20m out only for them to counter far too easily.

The 2nd we played much better and because our fwds presented much better it created space.

3rd term was ordinary for the most part but we did wrestle some momentum back. It was comical when we chopped it up twice when we'd created the ovalap and what should've been an easy goal was nothing.

Came out firing in the 4th and when we got level we missed a couple of get table ones. You always knew that they'd get that momentum back at some stage and we just couldn't hold them. Losing Ugle didn't help.

I was very surprised pre game that Nuich got the nod over Houghton and that change hurt us badly as young Nuich is not a natural fwd and is still learning. It also didn't allow Blakely to get a change. The other thing I don't get is how we practically went in with one less midfielder as McKay didn't even try to get the ball for most part of the day. I understand he's doing a tag but the bloke he tagged had 17 disposals so was it effective? NO! Not because he had 12 more than him but because we got eff all!!!
At one point we had the ball at half fwd and McKay was inside 50 with his arm across the bloke and just filling space. These days taggers have to win some ball as well unless you totally nullify your opponent.
And while I think Banfield is a good player,he just hasn't been able to deliver after breaking his leg. He didn't do a lot in ressies to win his spot back.

So next week I hope we see Houghton back in and bring in Whitsed,Slater and just play Dylan Nelson!
We need to attack and score more goals!

Out Nuich,McKay,Banfield and possibly Ugle if he doesn't get up.

Why Wilson was dropped has me absolutely stumped?
I reckon that is at least 6 games this year we have given up a lead late in the game to be overrun by being completely outpointed at centre clearances.
Mind you that horrific turnover from Riggio at CHF was the turning point where he completely ignored McKay twice who was 30m in space ..unbelievable!

Wishing an injury on a player is pretty low.

Ugle down and both Blight and crucially Broady hampered after half time. Really hurt our run. Got to pay credit to Claremont today, they could easily have chucked it in after SD hit the front in the last. Felt Maisters influence on the game was probably the difference.

Whilst we should al be very disappointed on yesrterday's loss; perhaps we should focus a little on some positives from yesterday's game.

For example, Cary has well and truly turned the corner and is starting to show his potential. Once again Rogers showed his total commitment to the mighty black and whites.
