Went for a job interview today. They told me I'd need to work Saturdays. This led to my immediate refusal in accepting the position. I've already missed enough footy this year and spending time with the old man at the footy watching our beloved SD at this stage of his life is way more important than doing someone else's dirty work on the weekend. Some may say that's a bad attitude to have but I'm no longer gonna sell my soul to the almighty dollar...SD are way more important to me than food...some things you just can't live without.
Can't wait for Saturdays game v Perth...need a footy fix bad so rain hail or shine I'll be there. Have been able to keep up with results whilst I've been away. Bit of a mixed bag from the boys. Read all the SD threads here last night but some details hard to get my head around with all the bickering. Just wondering if anyone would oblige me and could provide a bit of an update on the injury list and any significant form concerns. Noticed Simmo is out for a while and Rudy had been languishing in ressies which would suggest his calf injury finally got the better of him as he appeared to be coming good form wise as I went on hols. Any other updates be much appreciated to get me back up with the times and catch up on the season so far. In other words what have i missed of significance??? Thanks in anticipation
DW, Welcome back!. It has been a bit up and down all season for the Swannies. I remember you commenting on how cold it was at Leederville for that game against Subiaco so I assume that was your last game?
Since then we have had the State Game in which Ryan Davis won the Simpson Medal and the other Swans guys acquitted themselves nicely. Then there was a very wobbly victory over the Demons at Bassendean where they got the jump on us but we gradually pulled them back till we were cruising over 20 points in front, then Perth came back again at the death to trail by only 1 point, thought it was going to be Arena Joondalup all over again but thankfully the guys steadied.
Out of that game Simmo injured himself and will be out for 8- 12 weeks unfortunately, Blight is also still on the list with no indication of when he might come back. Geappean also went off injured against Perth and hasnt played since.
The next game was against an Eagle infested East Perth at Basso and we actually acquitted ourselves brilliantly in that we played what Harding described as our best quarter of the season in the first to have a 2 goal lead at quarter time. Eventually though the weight of AFL numbers wore us down and the killer was Jack Darling, playing what will probably be his only game at WAFL level, kicked 5 goals to sink us. The irony was that Alex Howard actually beat him on the day but Darling got away from him a few times in the 2nd half. Todd Banfield returned and even though he was short of a gallop he will be very handy as the season goes on.
Then last week we had the nail biter at Shark Park. The boys played at a high level all day to respect Tony Nottes 150th and were the better team all day really but they kept the Sharks in the game by turning the ball over cheaply and handing them goals on a plate. Jukes played one of his best game for Swans with 4 and the mids like Elari and Faulkner got leather poisoning. The last ten minutes of this game were excruciating as neither team could score and there were so many bounce downs and throw ins. This week Swans have an opportunity to win 2 games in a row for the first time this season.
I'm sure the other guys will be able to fill in some more gaps for you. Enjoy your footy fix on Saturday!
