Found this people, some very strange selections --they have got Trumper in their third XI which is just stupid. I would pick McCabe over Katich and Bevan, one of whom would make a worthy selection in the 2XI. It is good to see Geoff Lawson picked in the XI.

It is interesting that they picked two players -- Kippax and Bevan -- neither of whom could hit the ball off the square in test cricket, as we know.

He has a 20 game qualification for the state -- I can't believe that the WACA picked Mitch Johnson to this very day, and yet, they did not pick R B Simpson whom most definitely would qualify to be in the WACA's best side under this sensible rule. We would need him too against this NSW side.

my team:

Trumper --he was the third best cricketer of the 19 century -- behind Grace and Hobbs
Morris -- averagged 63 for NSW so I am unsure why they picked him in the second XI
Bradman
MccCabe
SR Waugh
Haddin
Noble (captain)
Benaud
Davidson
Lawson
O'Reily

The bowllers I am fine with their selections; one sees good ballance, slow medium, right arm and left arm fast, plus good leg sin. If they played away, such as at the WACA, one could always bring Lindwall into the side at the expense of the Irishman.

12 man Bardsley or Lindwall

Warne for example, qualifies to play for Hampshire but not Victoria, he did not bother to play 20 games. Of the more modern bowllers, I would rate only Mcgrath ahead of Lawson, keeping in mind, that Lawson bowlled against better batsmen most of the time; he could also captain the bloody side.

Probably didnt play 20 games for their state because they were too good and busy playing for their country Australia in all formats instead AR!

BH -- it is a reasonable criteria, given that he has to make some sort of decision on the question because the test players are away so much. You can tell that this man genuinely enjoys his FC which is fantastic indeed.

Although, I found it irritating when he kept referring to NSWS' win in 1982-83 shield final, to say the least. He also goes on about Dirk Wellham which is stretching it a bit.

I bet he didnt refer much to the 1991/92 Sheffield Shield Final AR were a young WA side rolled Geoff Lawson's highly more experienced mob at the WACA! :) :cheer:

So did I AR, the look on Geoff Lawson's face as NSW were beaten was priceless in itself.
In fact I dont think Lawson has ever got over that loss as evidenced by his continual shit canning of anything to do with WA ever since!
