So did I AR, the look on Geoff Lawson's face as NSW were beaten was priceless in itself.
In fact I dont think Lawson has ever got over that loss as evidenced by his continual shit canning of anything to do with WA ever since!

Yep he never tries to hide his disdain for WA. The worst case of sour grapes I have seen...

good one Bease -- just for the record too, Mcgrath played enough so we can add him to the first XI side even under his criteria. Hazelwood and Lee have both played more than 20 shield games. It is good to see MA Taylor in your side.

I also think he under rates Thommo and Lindwall

Lenny Pascoe & David Hourn were two bowlers who caused a bit of grief for WA sides in Sydney - debatable as to whether they would be in best ever sides though
Ian Davis & Steven Smith (not the modern cheat one) were two other openers who made plenty of runs

Southerner: we certainly had a lot of problems with Horn in Sydney.
Just a little story on the rivalry with NSW, I remember a conversation between K J Hughes and ME Waugh. Waugh was going on about NSW successes, but Hughes pipped up with 'not when I played'; well, I was honestly waiting for Waugh to say 'what about 1982', but to his credit he let it through to the keeper.

Although we were not at full strength in 1982, we did not have Alderman, none the less, it was a blot on WA's record during an otherwise fine era.

Lenny Pascoe is definitely around the mark when discussing NSW best sides in the last 40 years was a lethal fast bowler on his day.
Gee's Southy Ian Davis brings back horrific memories of those Australian sides without the WSC boys back in the late 70s- Davis, Peter Toohey, Carlsen, Ogilvie, McLean, Wright, Callan, Whatmore, Weiner, Darling, Hilditch.....
Although there was the odd diamond that came out of that motley lot- Border & Hughes.

ark it would be pretty damn hard to quantify who had the better sides between the two states - at one point in time WA had 7 players in the Australian first XI
then later NSW had the same
way too many guys to separate and the big variable was we couldn't win on the old pitches at the SCG - but NSW couldn't put up a Ghost at the WACA

In 1981 I think it was Southy WA had these boys all in the Test team-

Graeme Wood
Bruce Laird
Kim Hughes
Rod Marsh (w/k)
Bruce Yardley
Dennis Lillee
Terry Alderman

Graeme Wood too - when he wasn't running someone out that is
Graham Yallop was out of his league as well , couldn't captain a turd down into a bogbowl
1982 was the year of the Alderman shocker at the WACA just when he was getting to the top
can't forget those England ashes series when he smoked Pommie batsmen
