Still very much a winnable game for WA, 320 odd on the last day with 8 wickets in hand.....will need Bancroft to go big, with 2 others to go with him. No double ton for S Marsh.....totally agree with others, not too sure why he is playing.....time for SOS to move aside

Surprised Stoinis got the nod to play TBH. Yeah he scored 50 in WA's first innings,  but how much red ball cricket has he played to get into that WA top 6? If he was picked on his white ball feats, then surely Turner should of got first crack.....more so since Turner has been scoring runs for Freo this year in grade cricket as well as his white ball efforts.

329 needed on the last day with 8 wickets in hand, a long shot and SA are the hot favourites..... however... Cam Bancroft is still in and capable of batting the whole day, they also have Cartwright not out and Inglis, Hardie and Stoinis to come so if they could dig in for a few long partnerships anything could happen. Also Kelly and Stobo are more than useful if it got down to them having to support a recognised batsman. The pitch still seems to be OK so you never know, could be an exciting last day. It would be a great game to win after trailing by so much on the first innings

Just looking at Shaun Marsh's last handful of Sheffield Shield games for WA he has had scores of-
1, 16, 12, 13, 58, 17, 18.
That is only 135 runs at an average of 19.2 which is not ideal for your number 3 batsman let alone at age 40.
As I posted before he has been a great servant for WA for 2 decades now but probably should have retired on a winning note after last years Sheffield Shield triumph as not only is his first class form ordinary but his body continues to struggle with injuries as well.
And yes Freeze I agree on the Stoinis selection as well which was bizarre seeing he is only really considered a white ball player for hire these days!

Crazy to pick Marsh and Stoines - both should not be in shield planning for WA going forward.

Well done to the SA team, they certainly outplayed the Warriors and have now put themselves in contention for a berth in the final.
The result was inevitable once Bancroft was removed early today as he was the only batsman capable of scoring a double ton and supporting the other more attacking players. They lost the game on day 2 when they were reduced to 6 for not many in the first innings. Time for some soul searching by WA but no need to panic. Looking at the table they will probably qualify for the final with one more win out of their last 3 games. They have back to back games v Tasmania followed by Victoria at the WACA..
The battle is on for the 2nd spot in the final with all but NSW still in the picture.

It will be interesting to see whether Jyhe Richardson plays any further part in the season as he has been out for over a month now. Hopefully Paris should be back for the next game, He will strengthen the attack which is also missing Morris at the moment.
The good news is that the guys that are over in India will be back in time for the shield final if we make it so potentially Morris, Green and Agar will be available for that game.

Mikeh: as you said, kept in it by Inglis and Cartwright, which will do. We have definitely fielded stronger batting line-ups over the years. Tas., needs the points something which could see them declare around 250, aimming to have one or two out before stumps tomorrow.

Inglis's innings was a beauty given the situation of the game , might just have saved the season too with Victoria less than 3 points away now.
It's turned the game with WA virtually 1-223 with 2 days to play

They haven't added the bonus points for this game yet, so if WA end up winning this game they will still be close to 2 wins in front of the Vics with 2 to play. May be a repeat of last season with WA v Victoria at the WACA. Both teams will have their Aussie test players back by the time of the final. There is a ODI series in India which clashes with the match.

barring weather there should be a good amount of points coming after a lot of runs today - then 8 wickets before stumps
as you said it should put WA near 2 games clear and one foot in the home final door

Forecast is good for Hobart tomorrow so hopefully a quick end to the game.
A pretty complete performance and a good response to the below par effort against SA.
Another great innings by Cam Bancroft. He is making it very difficult for the Australian selectors to ignore him. Again Teague Wylie showed why youth is the way to go rather than a 40 year old with dodgy hamstrings.  Shaun Marsh has been a wonderful player for WA but he should have retired from red ball cricket after the shield victory last season.

Plenty of competition for spots in the team with centuries from Sam Fanning, Josh Phillipe and Ashton Turner in the 2nd XI game currently being played. Agar will be in the mix for the next shield game but not the final.  Lance Morris should be back for the final. Pity he wasn't sent back with Agar as he needs some match practice and he's not going to get it in India. Also there is the question mark over the availability of Mitch Marsh and Jhye Richardson as they are both in the ODI squad for a series in India from the 17th - 22nd March despite having had no recent cricket at all. The Australian selectors should have learned their lesson about picking players who are just recovering from injury but it seems they haven't.

The good thing from WA's point of view is that Jhye and Mitch should be fit enough to play in the Marsh Cup one day final at the WACA in a few weeks which will give the selectors more headaches because the team is unbeaten.

The only concern I have with WA's chances in the Sheffield Shield is making sure that their first choice fast bowlers in Paris and Kelly stay fit. Even though we have other options, these two have showed their value in this game and if we have wrapped up a home final by the last match, it may be a good idea to put them in cotton wool
