Correct. We flew him over. After the interviews were completed, he went home, was offered the job and then following discussion at home contacted us to say that due to family considerations he was declining the position.

I hear that the board has set up a stand at the local pub trying to get someone to apply. How about you BC.....I think you said you have coached juniors? Means you are an experienced coach, couldn’t hurt.

What I am finding surprising is the lack of scrutiny being directed at the club for leaking news of the offer before the appointment was initially accepted. Who was the source of the leak? Someone high up in administration such as the board, CEO or selection committee could very possibly be responsible for this. Not only are we a joke on the field, we are also a joke off the field, as the club cannot even guarantee the candidates that apply for the position confidentiality.

If none of the other rejected candidates are offered the position & accept, how much will this leak impact on the quantity & quality of applicants that may apply in the next round of applications? If I was a coach or assistant coach of another organisation I would most likely not apply, as if there was another leak & I was not successful I could also lose my current position.

The advantage to the club may be that coaches or assistant coaches that are still involved in finals in various leagues may apply in the next round of offers after the finals are finished. That is providing they are not put off by this leak.

It may have been a member of the board ...or a member of the selection panel...or perhaps Valentine told some one he had been offered the position... or perhaps the WAFC representative on the selection panel told someone at HQ ...... the leak could have come from any number of sources. Perhaps give John Townshend a call and he might reveal his source.

Nevertheless hopefully some lessons may be have been learnt here and at least have the new
appointee sign on the dotted line before any official announcement.
