42 ...8 of the top 9 in the betting are International horses atm.Best Aussie Arvidius trained by Anthony Cummings.Looks a very open race which makes it a good betting race.

Not taken any interest this year.
Apparently the favourite has taken the wide barrier 23 which by reports is not the best option. Heard reports he's still favoured to win.
An open field from what I heard

Assuming the Melbourne weather does live up to expectations and the rain does come my top 4 selections are:
  1. 3 Magic Circle
  2. 11 Yucatan
  3. 23 Cross Counter
  4. 22 Youngstar

Best roughie: 13 Finche

Though it is a very wide race.

Do you follow International racing 42?...otherwise how would you know as 95% of the field are not from Australia!
I have little to no interest in this race anymore with the almost complete takeover from the FIFO Internationals!

Let's start with the obvious. I notice you said Australia not Australasia. Not all of them are "FIFO". Interesting that you have said that Winx has been beating second rate horses yet you bemoan the fact that high quality stayers are coming to compete in the Melbourne Cup. One would have thought that you would be MORE interested in the Melbourne Cup with the participation of high quality northern hemisphere stayers. One of those imports that has won the Melbourne Cup, Fiorente, is now a stallion standing in Australia that should improve Australia's staying stocks.

Presumably you won't watch the BBL because of the imports participating in that competition.

Yeah not ALL of them only 15 of the 24 are trained outside Australia and thus are FIFO....also of the whole 9 who are trained in Australia now ALL bar 1 were bred and or started their career overseas!

Does the Melbourne Cup tell us something about Thoroughbred Horse racing in Australia. The international raiders think this race is up for grabs.Stayers at least. If our local bred horses are not good enough to make the Cup race. With the prize money disappearing overseas. That can't be good for local owners and trainers and our local industry allround.
