I thought the broadcast deal was put in place to showcase and promote the Wafl teams?
Is West Perth still part of the Wafl or not?

If they have nothing to hide, you never know your luck and that would save time speculating on this Forum.

Howson said in The WestcoastAFLian paper that increased revenue came from their incestuous WCE relationship , ie: drastically reduced footy dept spending and also from increased Bar takings in 2014

Received this from the WPFC .. One paragraph shows the whole thing is a farce created by CHANNEL 7 Who now appear to be running the WAFL. This is the one where WPFC said they wouldn't wear their 9 Logo on the biggest game of the year being the International day which is day when All people from all countries come together and to show Australia is a multi racial country. A good gesture by the WPFC.
BUT ALONG COMES THE WAFC ICW WITH CHANNEL 7 TO SAY IF THEY ALLOWED THIS IT WOULD IT WOULD INDICATE WPFC COULD SELECT THEIR MATCHES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What pathetic excuse to be given and it doesnt hold up and goes to show THE PETTY BLOODY MINDLESSNESS OF THE WAFC AND CHANNEL 7..

Dear valued member,

Please find following a notice to all members outlining the West Perth Football Club's position in relation to Channel 9 and Channel 7.

In addition, and in response to a number of queries, please be assured that the $8000 that is contributed by each WAFL Club towards the WAFL joint marketing strategy will not be allocated towards production costs of the Channel 7 broadcast.

West Perth Football Club wishes to sincerely thank its members and supporters for backing the Club’s decision to honour its long-term sponsorship arrangement with Channel 9.

The Club welcomed Channel 9 as its Major Sponsor in March, 2014, at which time the WAFL television rights were held by the ABC. The ABC broadcast several West Perth games in 2014 while the Channel 9 logo was displayed on the front of the Club’s jumpers.

It was only in February this year that the WA Football Commission (WAFC) announced they had reached an agreement with Channel 7. The agreement signed by the WAFC or any details of that agreement, has not been disclosed to the WAFL Clubs, despite repeated requests. Channel 7 appears to be dictating the terms of the television schedule and, as announced on Saturday, has decided not to televise any games involving West Perth.

During the course of negotiations over the past few weeks, Channel 9 graciously agreed to allow West Perth to wear jumpers without the Channel 9 Nine News logo for the Club’s biggest game of the year – International Round in Round 14. The Club offered the WAFC and Channel 7 the opportunity to televise this match, however, the WAFC has rejected the offer on the basis that such a deal would amount to West Perth nominating which of its matches would be televised.

In signing the deal with Channel 9, the directors of West Perth Football Club had the Club’s short and long term future firmly in mind. At the time, the Club had just recorded a loss of $288,000 in its premiership year of 2013. After signing the Channel 9 deal, which runs until at least the end of 2016, the Club was able to achieve a very modest profit of $2,300 in 2014. Without Channel 9’s sponsorship, the Club would have again made a significant loss.

To finish 2014 in the black was an amazing achievement after the struggles the Club has faced since moving to Joondalup in 1994, when it was forced into a tenancy agreement with Venues West. The move to Joondalup stripped the Club of many of its traditional sponsors and supporters and put it, at times, in a perilous financial position.

Without Channel 9’s sponsorship, the Club’s financial future was dire. It could not afford to reject any sponsorship proposal offered on reasonable terms let alone a major sponsorship deal worth approximately $300,000 over three years. Despite this and above any other circumstances, the Club was delighted to have secured a reputable high profile partner in Channel 9, a partner that shares the Club’s vision and aspirations for the community it services and represents. WPFC President Brett Raponi said Channel 9 had recently committed further funding to improve match-day experiences for patrons attending games at Joondalup and would also help the Club to increase its revenue. He said Channel 9 was committed to its contract and the Club was committed to its major sponsor.

“Football on free to air TV is great for the WAFL competition. My concern has always been the financial impact upon the Clubs that any broadcast contract may have, particularly with time changes to home games and the venues themselves. Given that football (WAFC) sourced the entire funding for production costs, I expected the WAFC would have had more influence upon Seven,” Raponi said.

“The Club was only informed three weeks ago that a directive from Channel 7 had come to the WAFC for West Perth to remove the Channel Nine News logo from its playing jumper or face the prospect of a black out. The Club has suggested a number of options which required collaboration from all parties, but at this point in time a satisfactory alternative has not been reached.

“The West Perth Football Club would like to continue discussion with Channel Nine, Channel Seven and the WAFC as the season progresses to obtain a more desirable outcome for all parties.”

“Personally and on behalf of the Board I wish to thank our members, supporters and sponsors for their overwhelming support of the Club over the past few weeks. Membership and sponsorship is strong and we now all look forward to Round One at Fremantle Oval against the Bulldogs.”

The Club’s 2015 budget was set in October 2014 and the sponsorship provided by Channel 9 is crucial to the Club’s efforts to meet its financial obligations. For the Club to cancel or abrogate from Channel 9’s sponsorship is, therefore, not an option.

Does your heart beat true?

And they have certainly started a few precedences at the WAFC..

Hmmm sponsors at EPFC are Channel 7 and they appear to have the most games being broadcast... Conflict of interest.
Macdonalds major sponsor so poor Hungry Jacks who sponsered the Eagles for years and then were dumped.. Obviously they wont be able to be show at any level as Macca's are the WAFL major sponsers... Would be interesting to go through all the clubs and the WAFL sponsors and see just how many conflicts there are.

Channel 7 obviously are on top of the world and are doing all State league broadcasts now.. SANFL etc etc... sounds like a monopoly and a plan is in place.

And it goes on an on. TV is running all sports. Had to laugh when they cancelled all Grade Cricket last week because the shame of a World series cup game was on... A lot of local cricketers not happy as they are now comming into finals. The game was a complete debacle between UAR and ? but The CA and the ICC had to have their way.. Its not about sport anymore but how much money can be made...

Good letter that bang on the money & I'm going to miss the Joondy telecasts it's a great view from where the Ch2 cameras sat

I think I'm going to buy 9 Green King Prawns , cook & eat the bastards then let the heads fester for a couple of days , then sabotage the Ch7 van at our first home telecast , pricks

Geez I hope those ex-WCE retards aren't the callers/hosts but I've got a sad sinking feeling they'll be stacked in there , pricks

For those who haven't looked at the televised games as yet, these are the advertised fixtures. 17 of the allocated 18 games in the qualifying rounds, remembering that Round 23 has yet to be allocated.

C - 3 as home team. 1 as visitors
EF - 3 as home team. 1 as visitors
EP - 1 as home team. 4 as visitors
PL - 2 as home team. 2 as visitors
P - 2 as home team. 1 as visitors
SF - 2 as home team. 3 as visitors
S - 3 as home team. 1 as visitors
SD - 1 as home team. 4 as visitors
WP - none allocated

So, the above shows that Claremont, East Fremantle and Subiaco have the most as home teams while East Perth and Swans have the least at home but equal most as visitors.

Not exactly a conflict of interest.

You forgot to mention to mention one of East Perth's away games is at Subi oval and 1 of the away games is against Subi at Leederville.
You can count them as home games as well

Another innacurate statement.East Perth have the equal most covered games covered by channel 7 along with the swannies and the bulldogs.Never let the truth get in the way with a good old fashioned rant.

Listening to the 91.3 boys calling the great game we won outright v NSW..
They spoke of all the A Grade WACA comp being cancelled on 28 Feb due to the World Cup game at the WACA.. and amongst other things thought it was a joke. with finals comming up some teams wont play for a couple of weeks and lose the edge etc.. More said but wont repeat it here.
When you consider it was UAE V INDIA as you can well imagine it turned into a farce with India walking it in with no effort and would of been a waste of money attending.

You can look at the fixtures...

mycricket.cricket.com.au/common/pages/pu...tyid=12&id=RVFIXTURE

Just to bring you up to speed Mr Afl..
Obviously WACA/ CA and the ICC saw it a way of getting a few more along and making a bit more money.. :(

Looking forward to the call from 91.3 on Thursday when we meet QLD at the GABBA.. Always a great listen and lately WA have been doing real well.. Top of the table at the moment.
More details at

www.sportfm.com.au/

Yeh I know it is off subject but you did ask :)

Have a good week. Looking forward to the WP v EF Scratchy at Shark park on 7 March
