Perhaps gtr means that Cummins et al are more racially inclusive then a lot of the cricketers playing on the Eng County circuit?

What frustrated me the most was the total lack of enterprise by the Australian batsmen and yet on the same pitch this morning England have plundered 40 in 25 minutes. Marsh tried to get on with it yesterday but the only batsman who made England think a bit was young Murphy who actually counter attacked and his 36 got us into the lead. Australia don't have to play bazball but regular strike rotation and intent to score puts pressure on any bowling unit. England were allowed to dictate terms yesterday and the only time they looked a bit rattled was the partnership between Murphy and Cummins.

Murphy needs to bowl a long spell today and Cummins shouldnt worry if he is getting some stick because I reckon he has a good temperament and may end up taking a bundle of wickets if they are attacking him.

Well I don't think 180 overs is enough, for this current Aust team to chase down that 380 target of England's. That would mean a run rate in excess of 2.5....bit too Bazballish for our boys

Well Murphy gor a decent trundle mikeh...and initially a bit of stick.. .but 5 wickets for the match isn't anything to be sneezed at. The youngster is a talent and the perfect successor to Lyon...and a better bat too.

Not sure Aust has learnt from previous 4 match + series with the word rotation.  The selectors seem to mention it a bit, but don't really embrace it. Three paceboys play 16 matches between them out of a possible 18... and the other two pace boys, play 2 matches between them, with one of the two not even playing.

Oh well let's join the Aussie girls and get on that plane back home quick smart, to celebrate those two Clayton's Ashes tours. Going to be a weird post match urn celebration if/when the Aussies get rolled for 150 on day 4.... going to be kind of embarrassing TBH.

a glimpse of the next year or two that is waiting for Australian cricket
Broad has stepped aside for the next generation of England cricketers
sounds strange but cannot see any of the Australians doing the same
so after this series the door simply has to be shown to the likes of Warner , Khawaja , Lyon

Another walloping on the cards here that will make it 2-2...but in reality on balance of play and at times complete domination England should have won this Ashes Series 5-0 or at the worst 4-1.
I hate to harp on it but I just continue to shake my head in disbelief at the clueless tactics, captaincy, batting, short pitched bowling, field placements, selections etc etc displayed under this McDoanld/Cummins regime....honestly it is below SMCA 7th Grade stuff!!!

With Broad retiring after this Test too I hope Warner doesnt get any ideas about playing on as the R&P regime would no doubt allow it too!

Broad has retired having had an excellent ashes series. He has gone out on a high and on his own terms. He was a formidable opponent who also seemed to lift himself against Australia.
He will go out probably today on a winning note.

The Australians talked about wanting to finish this series on a high after losing the 5th test in 2019 when they retained the ashes at Old Trafford. After that massacre on the 3rd day it appears that this was all talk. The bowlers have had no answer to Bazball in the last week and really England can only blame their stuff ups in tests 1 and 2 for not regaining the ashes. They have shown that they are far superior to this aging Australian team. I hope the batsmen can show some fight in the 4th innings but I suspect there is a good chance that they are mentally cooked and may just collapse like a pack of cards tonight.

I have the same fears that the Australian batsmen might be battling to see out the day, Mike.
I really hope that I'm wrong and that we can take the game into Day 5, and perhaps a spirited but unlikely victory.
Stuart Broad's overnight retirement announcement is strategically very clever as, whatever he does for the rest of the match, he'll have the vocal home crowd in a frenzy.

All the best to Stewart Broad.Hes left International Cricket with a good final Ashes series. 👏
If Stewie can take a 5 for in the Aussies last innings. He might tip Stokes out for player of the series.
Does look like the Poms are already planning for Ashes 2024/25.Woakes is probably the only current bowler who will play in that tour.
Been a good day 2+3 by the Poms.Maby a big Warner century could save the Aussies. Lol.
Retaining the Ashes has been a good effort..Although the last 3 tests have been terrible. None of which should have the finger pointed at R+P..It was the mess left by Langer. As one poster will remind us of.

We should take this into day 5. Rain looking like a factor today. Sessions 2 and 3 looking like they may be disrupted.

Broad has been one of the major reasons that Australia has not won a series in England in over 20 years. 150 ashes wickets speaks for itself. His record in Australia hasnt been so good but none of the English bowlers have really excelled with the Kookaburra with the last 3 series here being so one sided.

Interesting that Englands next series will be in India. This will be the final frontier for Bazball. If they can win in India on their doctored wickets they will be rightfully regarded as a ground breaking team if they are not already.

Meanwhile Australia will come home, ashes in the bag and try and pretend they were on level terms with England when we all know they were saved by the Manchester rain from a 3-2 series loss and as BH said, only a few dumb sessions by England in the first two tests when they were well ahead in both games, prevented it from being 4-0. I don't know if there will be a lot of change in the Australian side as there would have been if the series score had been as one sided as that.

They will probably get a chance to repair their egos against inferior opposition at home this summer but the team has a feel that it is just about to break up with very not a lot of obvious replacements for the imminent retirees
