A truly awful session of Test Cricket by the R&P regime (probably Langers fault no doubt to some), losing 5/71 with some poor dismissals including Carey who is finishing the series extremely poorly with both gloves and bat after a reasonable start, ditto Head.
Just have meandered through the whole day, barely scoring and not put any pressure back on the Pom bowlers.
For mine this continues a pretty ordinary last 3 Tests by Australia, there just seems to be next to no planning, more hoping England throw their wickets away when batting and hope England bowl poorly which they havent all series to be fair!

I have never seen a more passive bunch of players representing Australia. They had a chance to put the England bowlers under pressure today but such was their complete inability and intent to score in the first session, the bowlers were able to keep plugging away on the same lines and lengths and then create opportunities in the second.

They have had no answers to Englands aggressive approach and the hosts would be kicking themselves for throwing away potentially match winning positions in the first two tests because they are calling the shots now. It looks like it will be an embarrassing presentation ceremony when Australia are given the ashes at the end of this test match.

Spot on Mike, I agree 100% with all of the above.
Dare I say it this current Australian side need a complete overhaul, refresh, whatever you want to call it, as it is looking old and tired and playing accordingly!

The likes of Green & Murphy need to be persisted with and the likes of Hunt, Morris, Johnson, Inglis, Sutherland etc fast tracked asap!

I get  R&P aren't everyone or TBH on here, anyone's cup of tea.....and yes Aust batting  is either too timid or too wafty, when trying to show more intent.....and yes the bowlers are dumb as, for bowling short time and time again.

Folk comment as though Aust  frailties have suddenly just appeared under this current regime.. Aust have struggled for years playing away from home, v a seaming/swinging or spinning ball.....even with with better credentialed batsmen or cricketers in general, at the coaching helm or in the team.

Its very disappointing and frustrating to see Aust blow a great chamce to put this game to bed.....kudos to Eng for fighting back.....it's called Test cricket  for a reason.i just can't see why we can't get behind any and every Aust team that plays.....we are all selectors at heart......but who plays and who doesn't, is out of our control.

I totally agree, Aust will need to replenish its starting 11 over the summer, no doubt about it.....too many stay on for too long, but sadly Warner et al aint the first nor will be the last.....Ponting, Waugh, Clarke and so on.

I just hope Aust can get as close as possible to Eng first innings score and then bowl well.....but then again that's going against the narrative here.

Kudos to the lower order for stepping up and getting a lead.....regardless of whatever folk think of Cummins, as a cricketer he gives a 110%....wish others in the team had his heart.....might not get it right in all facets to please the masses,...but it's a tough unforgiving crowd to please most days....especially here on Oz Footy.

All set up for an intriguing day 3.....true test of how strongly Eng believe in Bazball as a strategy and entertaining the masses is more important then the end result. If Eng get it right then 400+ will secure them an unassailable lead TBH and a moral series win at 2/2......get it wrong....and Aust could be chasing 150 - 200 to win.....which is doable.....for a 3-1 series win.....no doubt in the eyes of many....a very very very lucky  and confusing series win.

You got to love test cricket  and all the banter and idiosyncrasies that goes with it.

Mike the term to describe the current Australian players is Woke.Thats got R+P written all over it.
It's been a test so far of strategic mistakes ,by Australia
Bowling first on a wicket with variable bounce. The keeper takes one ball at his knees. The next ball is taken at head height. Will be a nightmare to bat last on.
Batting for time in day2, first session. Is another error. An invitation to let England back into the match. Its only a matter of time before the English middle session, came along.
England deserved to be smacked after the way they batted,on day 1.

gtr - mate, the term "woke"  means alert to racial prejudice/discrimination and social inequalities!.....I think soft is the adjective you are looking for mate.

As for the old boys club?.....I assume we mean Smith, Warner, Starc, Hazlewood, Lyon and Cummins?... Funnily enough the same 6 players that the previous coach rolled out most tests....its been an entrenched BB old boys club long before this current coaching set up.....why suddenly all the finger pointing at Ronald McDonald for picking that 6?....Why not Lehmann....why not Langer?

I am all for trash talking, but I think the narrative here is as confusing as some of R&P tactics.

The call to stay woke was aimed at an African-American standpoint but regardless surely to be alert to racial prejudice is a good thing.

Back to the cricket and poor batting by the Aussies yesterday. By all means stay out in the middle but Marnus you must also score runs! Head now has the complete opposite problem lasting just 5 balls and Carey hitting the ball straight to a fielder was just dopey. Lucky the tail wagged and Smith stuck around long enough to wipe any deficit. Aussies may need to start doing a rain dance to save this one.
