One thing overlooked by many (including me), was that the Eagles gave us warning that this would probably happen. Many (including me) thought they would drag themselves up the ladder this year. Well, I’ve reset my compass and will not get overly concerned till about round 15 where I would be expecting them to challenge some of the lower ranked teams. If we’re still getting flogged this time next year….FIIK!!!!
Held on to old players for too long as well as extending contracts beyond what was necesssary, i mean nic nac for 2 years , when one would have been just fine, he was never going to leave anyway IMHO , and looking at the Eags reserves, there appeared to me to be a lack of talent coming thru. Baker and Graham are average players, who play well in a good team ( tigers). Would captain Duggan get a game in any other AFL club?? I think Nessbit stayed too long, which didnt help the club move forward.
West Coast have gone back to the well to many times on and off-field. Refused to move on players when they needed too to see next wave f talent leave for opportunities at other clubs - Nic Nat retained with on-going injury concerns cause they sold heaps of #9 jumpers and Nic Nat Headwear in the team store! But lose Sinclair, Lycett, Hickey to other clubs and then don't give a couple of others a crack.
Off-field Nesbitt needed to move on years ago after the drug saga - the fish rots from the head but held on forever. Tim Gepp, Rob Wiley and Ian Miller have been reposted into too many different roles too many times. Then when they get a chance to put a broom through the place they fall back to Don Pyke and Woosha. The West Coast well is dry
Well said TT. Promotion of the club has certainly been the motto of the club.Number Nine #9 must have drwawn in millions to the club, Cousins, Nic and now Reid.
Protect the brand.
And Nisbitt certainly did hold on too long.
Again, protecting the brand after and during the drug saga.
Woosha, same.
And noow they are regurgitsting the same old names.
