Sorry Swandog as much as I love State Footy it is evident that the WAFC/WAFL doesnt putting on State game in a country area :( As someone said they should of put one of the country WAFL games on their...Lets not forget the venue has cost a lot of money and maybe someone wants to justify that? quote THE 2013 WAFL v VFL State Game will be played in Northam on May 11 as the first major football event at the Shire’s new $11 million sporting facility. unquote.

If it was at Leederville no problem. I am sure the ABC ratings will get a boost though as I will be watching it on there for sure. :) Even if it is a DELAYED telecast

Strange thought but its not really a State game anyway just a WAFL V VFL (2nd tier comps) game as most of our better players are in the AFL.. Now surely if the best from the West played the Best from Victoria that would be a State game..
Back to State of Origin... That is the Biggest event of the year in the NRL (Rugby League)... But then Demitreou wouldnt see that.. Fixtures? Dont know how they would fit it in but the NRL does? They even have a Country v City game each year,

mikeh wrote: Must admit I'm with Sacko here. I'm finding it very difficult to get enthusiastic about this game. I know its important for players to aspire to a higher level of football, but why is the game in Northam? Perhaps it was the sweetener for the fact that they lost the pre season AFL game. Interstate games should be in Perth in my opinion. Northam could have hosted a Perth Demons game which given their form this year could get more people than the WA v Vic game.....

Maybe I'm just cranky because Im not getting my Swans fix. From their last game on April 25 to their next fixture against East Perth is 23 days! Too long for the middle of the season in my view if you want to keep some sense of continuity in the WAFL competition

I hear you mike 23 days between Swans games is just not good enough IMHO!

Swans had the bye last weekend, Cardy. So, 23 days between games for them, too. As for the State game, I believe it's in Northam because the Lib/Nats' Royalties for Regions program is footing the bill.
It's a pain, though. The real test of whether the public cares is to see how many show up to WA v Victoria at a venue like Leederville Oval on a cool, dry day. We're blowing the chance to do that. I mean, we say nobody cares, but the last couple of games here have both been in shocking conditions against Qld at Mandurah and SA in the rain at Leederville. They're not really fair tests.
If we could only get 2000 people to WA v Vic at Leedy on a good day, then the whole thing is dead and buried.
Personally, I enjoy watching State footy. Last year's game was a cracker. I will decide on Saturday morning whether I make the drive out to Northam or watch it on delay.

Gotcha mate.. Only looked at the games comming up forgot about the bye last week.
I went to the WA V VIC game with ben at Leederville a few years ago on a nice day and the place was packed. We would of won the game as well if wasnt for the VIC umpire not allowing a blatent free kick right in front in the closing stages.
Good crowd that day the outer was packed

After beating your mob on Anzac Day April 25 our next game is not until May 18 vs the Eagles Reserves Team ..by my estimate that is 23 days Cardy!

Could some of the other WAFL grounds other than Leederville host state games in future? Finals can be played on any ground so surely State games could potentially be the same. Personally ,I would like to see a WA v Vic game at Fremantle Oval. Bassendean would be worth considering as well

Bassendean is a nice oval but parking is no good.

Couldn't get any for SD vs P and you had a disappointing crowd that day.

I'm not against other grounds being used, Mike. I just named Leederville because it's fairly central and well set-out.
Personally, I don't much like Freo because you've got a road between the stands and the playing arena.
I don't mind Basso, Joondalup and Lathlain as venues, though all have their faults. Not fussed on Claremont and East Freo. Leederville is my clear favourite. Perhaps that's because I grew up there watching the Cardies.
