Round 21 1981...Cmt V Swans at Claremont...The tigers had won 11 in a row and needed another to get the Marlboro 20k.Massive crowd with the old Claremont bank packed like sardines.One of the Krakours was knocked out in the first qtr.Swans lead all day and had a 4 foal+ lead at 3 qtr time..Two super sides + South Freo..Remember Darryl Sutton on loan from North Melbourne playing a super game at centre half back.To this day the only came that came close in Wafl was the 2010 GF..,for standard. Claremont's goal kicking machine could not be stopped that day or season.

1982 Prelim. Was at the ground really early, selling raffle tickets for my junior footy club - vale Tuart Hill JFC. Took seats directly behind the goals at the city end during the colts game. Very excited young fella, chance for the Falcons to get in a GF. We of course got belted by Claremont. Do remember Warren Ralphs mark. Ray Holden, the gun fullback of the competition at the time, went with Ralph on the lead and actually got a few steps in front of him. From my vantage point directly behind the 2 of them, and from a 10 year olds eyes, Ralph didn't break stride and just seemed to run up the back of Holden. Didn't appreciate it then, cause I hated anything that wasn't West Perth, but what an absolute beauty of a mark.

Unfortunately not a memorable match for me. For the record I went to the game absolutely full of confidence with my best mate a Subi supporter. We were going to the Chelsea Tavern on Stirling Hwy Nedlands post game to celebrate which was the place in those days.

Having beaten Subi 4 times that year it was going to be a walk in the park.

I took along my tape recorder to tape the radio broadcast which I intended to play back to him all night.

Alas it wasn't to be and in accordance with our bet I had to play it on his commend ALL NIGHT or buy for the boys!

It was the most expensive night of my life!

Thankfully we redeemed ourselves in 75 but it was the one that got away!

Should definetely have been Flags in 69', 71' 73 & 75!!!!!!!!!!

I am sure it meant a lot more to us than it would have to the Munchers, Demps.

While I've got you here, I was reflecting on an absolute few moments of sheer brilliance at Muncher Park (as it was in those days) - as best I can track it down (thanks Footyfacts), on 29 July 1972.

Third quarter, Subi kicking to the Tech School end, and a few goals down. Then, as my memory recalls, Ocker kicked 5 goals in about 10 minutes, to completely turn the game around.

If you where there, can you (or any other Cardy supporters - or Subi for that matter) remember and confirm.

I would have been there Jack as I rarely missed any of our games. Ocker was the arch enemy and he always seemed to be able to turn a game on it's head in the space of 15 minutes after being well held by our boys. As you know Ocker rarely missed and even tho he looked like a bit of a siisy to the opposition he never seemed to be intimidated by the rough stuff. Unfortunately I can't remember specifically the game you mention in question but as an aside I thought I'd share the fact that in the last qualifying round of 1968 Brian Atkinson (ex WP President) and I (who in those days absolutely hated Ocker) paid the great man the ultimate compliment. We actually left the West Perth game at half time to go to over Subiaco to watch Ocker break Bernie Naylors record for the most number of goal in a season. I think he kicked 14 goals for the game. It was an extraordinary performance and one which you really had to be there to believe!

Great story, Demps - and admiration for your recognition of history.

I was most certainly there for the day, camped at the Perth end. And despite what Ocker had to say in this video, there can be no doubt that his team mates were kicking backwards (and ignoring open shots) to allow him to break Naylor's record.

Yeah pretty hard to go past '73, I was 18 so was able to buy my own at the shiny new bar we finally had to celebrate in ... cant remember much after about 9pm, but it was bloody brilliant.

2014 was a ripper as well, massive underdogs to the East Eagles who chucked in the towel after our dominant 3rd qtr. One from way back in the late 60's in Bunt's first coaching stint with us, we played 3 1st semi's in a row I think it was 66, 67 & 68 during the Perth era, we played EP and were smashed all day, down by just over 8 goals at 3/4 we came storming back to get infront only to have an EP reserve come off the bench in the last few minutes and be in the right place at the right time and miss-kicked a soccer which somehow managed to dribble through on the siren. Heart ache all round but a great game. Watched it from infront of the old wooden public stand.

Great topic this one, really got me thinking about all the games I have watched over quite a few years now!
I was at this game too and it is memorable as Ocker Robertson was my hero as a youngster and the rest of my family and people I went to school with were all West Perth supporters. We looked out of it at half time even tho we were only about 3 goals down. Then Ocker had that purple patch and suddenly we were in front. He ended up kicking seven in the third and finished with eight and we won by eight points. That game was part of a five game winning streak I think in the last seven games and set us up for what came in 1973.
The 73 grand final would probably be my all time favourite game with the high scoring preliminary of the same year up there too. Then the 2014 Grand final as I went to the game thinking we would be unlikely but got a pleasant surprise when we defied the odds in that game.

I completely forgot about one of my most memorable games and for you die hard Subi supporters it was against your mob!

Much to my absolute disgust the hierarchy at West Perth surrendered the Holy Grail of Leederville Oval in 1993 after 80+ sacred years and moved to the country at the Joondalup arena for the 1994 season.

In round 21 the final game of the season we fronted your mob in front in the last West Perth home game held at Leederville Oval in front of a crowd of 20,112 people.

It brought tears to my eyes and the good thing was we beat your mob by 50 points and did we give it to old Karl Langdon the Eagles ring in!

We ended up on top of the ladder with 13 wins and 8 losses.

Another bonus was watching the ex-players play an exhibition game at half time, it was so good to see them all again!

I reckon the Club had a record day at the Bar as it was a real swimfest!

Then we had the bonus of beating your boys again in the preliminary final.

Unfortunately we lost to Claremont in the Grand Final otherwise it would have been a real season to remember!!!!!!!!
