SA gave us a bit of pasting in that 87 State Game at the WACA AR but in fairness to us WA had been decimated by the inaugural Eagles & VFL clubs in the summer of 86/87 whilst SA was at full strength bar the ones playing in the VFL at the time.

BH.Brad Shine was the guest at the annual Swans V East Perth function. Was lucky enough to speak to Brad.Was very friendly and great to talk to.7 VFL clubs wanted bulldog and he chose Carlton.Dont know if that was the right club to go to in that era.
On Arks Topic.Don Holmes an original Eagle.Kicked 7 goals in 87 v the Brisbane Loins.Not sure he played for WA.Another Bill Skirowski,Steve Galespie.

Donny Holmes played for WA in that 1984 infamous match vs SA at Football Park mate.
I always remember that infuriating SA commentator at the time kept pronouncing his surname as Holl-mes
Billy Skwirowski played for WA in 1985 vs SA at Subiaco Oval where they gave us a pantsing kicking 30 goals in the process paying us back in our 100th year after we did the same to them in 1978.
You were right about Steve Gillespie he didn't get a state guernsey in his 200+ games for Swans.

Two from other sides - I can't remember the dynamic duo in Mick Rea or Wayne Ryder playing state footy? Pretty tough getting a gig ahead of Sidey, Squizzy, Ralph i suppose between 81 and 86

He didn't finish his career on a good note at Perth but in his prime i always thought Aaron Zucconi was very stiff not to earn a couple of state games. I think the closest he got was being named in the initial squad. Very versatile player who could hold down any key position and effective pinch hit in the ruck.

Probably a victim of playing for a club down the bottom of the ladder. Our blokes rarely get a look in.

I have been looking at a few sites listting some of the state sides, brings back some good memories whatever the result for WA. One whom played more state football than I rememberred was Greg Wilkinson. A good player -- went down with a bad injury in the late 1980s.

Yeah I remember Greg Wilkinson AR. A good CHB recruited from University who might have Captained the Lions at one point he was the only vet playing footy at the time. Probably well remembered as being Michael Mitchell's step ladder back in 85!

Well spotted Swandog, Stinger never played State and given how many times he topped goalkicking was a baffling oversight.
