People can miss state team selection for a number of reasons, of course, includding the simple fact that someone could play their position better. Even so, the theread is designed to mention those whom were worthy of selection had everything been equal.

David Ellard in 2017 if he misses out. Alex Howard will be extremely stiff also, his current form is of AFL standard. I believe neither are in the initial squad although stand to be corrected if recently included.

Did Brent Hutton play state back in the day. he was on fire 84/85 from memory but not sure if he achieved state honours. BH???


EDIT : Just googled it. he played state in 1987 v SA. !984 was the year he was on fire, 85 back in defence

From bygone South Bulldog days might have been guys like Jamie Lockyer , Geoff O'Brien , Paul Vasoli , Kevin Cornell , Ross Sweetman , Tony Kelly , Chris Stasinowsky (WP/P), they were a few that could have easily slotted into State Rep sides



Willie Roe , Benny Vigona , Rod Barrett , Paul Mountain (SD/WP)should have played far more

Had another big lad Wayne Delmenico - ex-Melbourne Demons who ended up becoming a Sandgroper could have easily slotted in

The major glaring omission from representing WA from SD I can find was Brad Shine AR.
Bulldog Shine I still to this day say was the toughest player I have ever seen in my time of watching WAFL footy he week in week out went where angels fear to tread.
He was also very skillful off either foot as well.
Knee problems curtailed his career stemming from his stint at Carlton 85-88.
Played in our Premiership hat trick 82-84 he came back to Swans as Captain in 89-90 but missed our 90 Premiership that season with a career ending knee injury.
Brent Hutton wore Bulldog's No.2 guernsey in the GF as a mark of respect for the great man.

Peter Sartori appears to have missed out on state honours according to Wikipedia. Is that correct BH. Could be considered unlucky if true.
