Ark Swans V Subi in 79 was 40 goals v 20.60 goals in the game. But the answer to your question a guess. They both beat South Fremantle a top side last game of the season at Freo oval.

One other game which has always stuck in my mind from 1979 was a game against the Royals in the third series. It was played at Perth Oval and Subi won 18.21 to 17.16 from memory. The amazing thing was that we led 8.8 to 1.1 at quarter-time and had our lead narrowed to five points before Greame Schultz kicked the last goal of the game.

gtr: I remember seeing the result on the news as a little kid, I could not believe it. The SD score from that day is searred into my memory. The strange thing about playing/following sport, is that, at least for me, it is easier to re-call a lot of the loses rather than the wins.

There were one or two saving graces from the game, I guess:

Buckenara's 9 goals
kicking 20 goals as a team

Full credit to SD for their performance on the day. It was no fluke either, gtr, because as you know, you nearly beat your own record against the PFC in 1981

It is funny how certain games stick in our memory even close to 40 years later.
I have memories I have never forgotten against all the other WAFL teams from that time that I hope stay with me until the day I die both wins and losses.

Talking of great fightbacks at Perth Oval, in round 1 1986, Swans came back from 52 points down at half time to beat East Perth by 2 points. The score was SD 21-20 to the Royals 22-12! Kevin Taylor was BOG with 32 possessions and 5 goals with Brent Hutton snagging 4. The classic game of 2 halves. As I remember it was a really hot day and EP ran out of legs.

That was the high point of the year for Swans as they ended up finishing last on the ladder!

Remember that game well Mike. It must have been on an Easter Monday as the family came back early from a holiday down south just to watch and at half time we were just about ready to head back but thankfully stayed until the very end. :)
I also remember another game against EP at Perth Oval on a public holiday Monday must have been around 82/83 where we came back from a big deficit at 3/4 qtr time with Toddys master stroke move of Leon Baker into the centre changing the course of the game in front of a jam packed crowd. :)

grassy: your right -- I think EP thrashed EF the next week -- kicking 30 goals -- only to lose a close first-semi final game to OLD EASTS a few weeks later.

Yes it was Easter Monday 1986. There was over 10000 people there. I am still totally baffled at the Easter fixturing which now has no games on Easter Monday and hasn't had games on this day for a number of years.

Actually just remembering back to that early 80s era I always look back at those SD-CL-SF games fondly there was massive crowds & brilliant games but we had some massive crowds at SD v EP & SD v WP games as well back then too.
