In 1978-1979, Swand Districts and Subiaco finished last on the league ladder respectivelly. However, in those disastrous years, both clubs attained a unique result in WA football history.

What was it?

Hint: it something to do with the wins the two clubs achieved in those years.

Did both teams twice beat the team that finished on top of the ladder at the end of the home & away games AR?

I was a member of the EF Stats team in 1979 and I can recall Swans beating us during that season and I think they also beat South. So I would say that Swans beat both the 1979 grand finalists at least once that year.

BH: brilliant effort: the strange thing was that, in round 20, when Claremont had climbbed to equal first, Subiaco led all day, eventually losing by 8 points. As you mentioned BH, they beat Claremont eleary in the season, so the symmentry is not 100 per cent with SD in 1978. It was a great effort by SD to beat the PFC in 1978 especially given their form for most of the season.

Custodian: good one -- you were on the right track, thinking laterally.

AR as a kid I can always remember the Subi side of that late 70s early 80s era always had a good record against Claremont who were flying at the time, they caused a big upset one year when the Krakouer brothers were dominating.

BH: Yep, always been that way from memory. To be honest BH, I think that, to this day, Claremont is the only club we have had more wins than loses against in the competition -- excludding Peel.

Swans then went on to win the next 16 games against Perth, not losing to them again until round 11, 1984. The win streak of 17 their longest win streak against the Demons
