Just had a quick look at the seasons where an alignment and part alignment have been in place and it makes for interesting reading.
In only 1 season in the 8 where there has been alignments or part alignments has there not been an alignment side not at least make a Grand Final that being last year (SU vs WP) but the 2 aligned sides finished 3rd & 4th respectively.
I have tabled each year below who were the aligned sides, final ladder position, win-loss record during the home & away season in brackets and a * if made the finals and a X if didnt play finals.

1999- CL-WC 5th (11-9)X, SF-FD 2nd (18-2)*
2000- EP-WC 1st (15-3)*, SF-FD 7th (8-10)X
2001- EP-WC 1st (14-4)*, SF-FD 2nd (13-5)*
2002- EP-WC 1st (13-5)*, SF-FD 6th (9-9)X
2013- EP-WC 2nd (12-8 )*, PT-FD 9th (3-17)X
2014- EP-WC 2nd (16-4)*, PT-FD 8th (4-16)X
2015- EP-WC 3rd (11-9)*, PT-FD 4th (13-7)*
2016- EP-WC 5th (10-10)*, PT-FD 1st/2nd (11-9)*

that does make interesting reading...in a 9 team comp you'd expect at least 1 of the aligned teams to make the finals but to get into the GF every year bar 1 is extraordinary...a nice piece of research there BH..

That table above does make a complete mockery of the WAFC's constant bleating that the alignments Mk I & Mk II haven't made the WAFL world cave in.
If 7 years of the 8 Grand Final appearances ( the only year neither made the GF they finished 3rd & 4th respectively) of alignment seasons isn't unhealthy I don't know what is?!

the fact that they brought the final five back is also a revealling little fact in and of its self

That is a separate discussion altogether BC I will just stick to the alignment debate in this particular topic.

I don't wish to get off topic. But the Total attendance figures are interesting for the (above) mentioned years also. Or the lack thereof may be a better description. Would appear alignments are bad for crowds too.

Being the only club fully aligned with the WAFC where everyone else reports to the WAFL would suggest yes is the answer to that question!

Still hearing crickets from the the club Presidents, I hope there getting together behind the scenes so far Rsponi has shown a set of balls publically , nada from the rest.
