With Subiaco dominating for most of the past 12 years what other clubs have dominated in the past.
The now defunct East Perth was probably the most dominant of all time winning 5 in a row 1919-1923
South Freo won 6 1947-1954.
Swans winning 3 in a row in the 60s and 80s
Can anyone else think of any other golden eras

Outer: the big three --EF, WP, EP, -- won 54 premierships up to 1980; in most cases, even when someone else won the flag, they played one of the big three in the grand final. In addition, it was not until 1970, that none of the big three made the finals. We owe a great debt to the PFC sides of the 60s and 70s, and the SD side of the early 1960s.

Grassy: I would go so far as to say that the 1947-55 era was the one period where the big three did not dominate because of the powerful South side and the very good PFC side which could not quite match it with South and WP, at least for premierships.

Can't really say WP ever dominated an era, they may have won 19 premierships but have never gone 3 in a row and only went back to back in 1934-1935 and 1941-1942 with 1942 being the under age comp during the war.

Interesting topic Tosg.Had a look at Subis last 30 years and they have been the standout side in thoes 3 decades..Must of enjoyed the Premiership win over West Perth last year. The Falcons have knocked you off in plenty of finals in the 90's and 2000's.

I know it's not WAFL but have to mention Port Adelaide's run of 6 1954-1959 and actually winning 9 in 11 years

Yep WP ended our season many times up to and including 2003, that's why last years was the one we really wanted.

How many Grand finals did WP make in the period 1947-1954? It is true that they lost out to South, but that side is viewed by many as the best seen in Perth. You need to give WP some credit. Had it not been for SF, they could have easily had 20 premierships by 1980. The same applies to EP whom suffered the most at the hands of Perth in grand finals.

Hard to comment on era's you didn't witness but I was privileged to grow up witnessing a golden era for Perth in the 70's and had to knock off some mighty opposition in the process. Claremont, SD and SF were the dominant 3 sides in the competition from about 79 to 84,then I think Subiaco ended their drought in 85 or was it 86? Then Claremont had a golden run under Neesham before the Dockers plucked him from the WAFL. Since then Subiaco have dominated* since Peter German kicked them off.

*exploited dominance through a sweet deal with Subiaco Oval. Sorry Subi followers but it's fact.
