Are you saying that the WAFL level of football is the equal of the AFL?
What Lyon was saying,is fact. The Melbourne based clubs have reserves sides in the VFL.Every week the Melbourne based reserves still play against the AFL players.Eagles and Fremantle get to play , what every four weeks. The only time they play against players of their own ilk is when they play each other. And I don't say that as being disrespectful of the WAFL.It is fact.

What has changed in 12 months?

Freo and WCE finished 1 & 2 last year under this format. Eagles decimated by injury at certain times relying on those coming through from the WAFL system to fit in play a role. While injuries hurt them, those coming up each week didn't appear to struggle with the pace of the game to much.

This is just glossing over a much bigger issue, the issue is not with the standard of WAFL it's to do with the level of player Fremantle has at its disposal. No secret that the bottom half of the list is less than average and the injuries sustained so far this season has exposed that. Playing in the VFL or having an AFL dedicated reserves team will not fix the fact that Fremantle have too many on the list that are not AFL footballers.

Getting back to the issue of Ross I think the bloke is an arrogant tosser who is running short on excuses. He will completely gut the Dockers before he leaves for another victim.

Haven't been to a WAFL game, or NEAFL game for a couple of seasons, however back in 2013, I attended both competitions before the Canberra sides dropped out like flies.

The NEAFL, even the good teams at the time would not have matched the pace of the WAFL. This was proven in the Foxtel Cup in my opinion.

The top NEAFL sides would have been the same level as a good WAFL Ressies side.

Mike.

If that is what he stated, the remark raises some serious questions!
One being if the Wafl is not up to standard, why does big business have 2 entities in the Wafl competition after taking 2 of the Wafl teams over?

I'll start by saying I didn't hear Lyons comments but if he's using the WAFL as a whipping boy for his own teams dramatic failings then why were both AFL teams so determined to have their left over players grouped together in a WAFL team. It was marketed as the most important change that would drastically improve each teams performance as the players would all be getting the same consistent message. It was touted as a resounding success last year when both teams played way above expectations particularly WC. Now that Freo are failing dismally and WC can only win home games, should they be honest about it and say that having a single team for their leftovers makes bugger all difference if too many of the players they recruit are not up to AFL. If that's so then their case for their own/aligned teams fails at the first hurdle.

Who knows what Grassy is on about most of the time but what I heard Ross Lyon say was in defense of not picking blokes too early from the WAFL because he said it's a couple of levels below the AFL and it's like amateurs vs professionals.

TBH Anchor there are plenty of players in the WAFL who aren't on a list who are good enough to be on a list for Freo's and WCE boys to play.....if not you would think 14 AFL listed guys should do the business against 22 also rans week in week out.....Lyon is just deflecting his own deficiencies mate....his list has turned to rabble over night with no Fyfe, no Johnson or McPharlin up back, a past it champ in Pav and no Sandi in the ruck...these guys carried a fair majority of the squad week in week out and Lyons limited coaching plan...without them Freo has only the likes of Walters, Mundy and Neale of real AFL quality to deliver Lyons plan....Lyon has no plan B sadly.....or more to the point no players good enough to implement a plan B

Beveridge at the WBD is a true coach.....he has no tall forward, no out n out ruckman...medium sized backs and yet his game plan is far more advanced than Lyons....and Beveridge is missing his talisman in Murphy up back, the run of Johannisen and the guile of Suckling....all three would be walk up starts at every AFL club....development is something Lyon struggles to do....St Kilda know oh so well.

Do you continue to experiment?

Yeah I think Ethan Hughes found out about the level, he wasn't at his best tonight, but its chalk and cheese AFL and WAFL its a massive gap but he will feel it, that's his second game, it was a tough night against pretty good opposition, he's a surer player than that.

that is what Ross said, Grassy must of been on the piss posting this thread, and the sad thing is there were plenty of posters that agreed with him lol.

Ross did.Just heard him say,"It's Chalk and Cheese. It's a Massive Gap!"

Unmistakably! What else do you think he was talking about.

Tiddlywinks and Mastermind?

If that doesn't clear it up for you,DD and Pete,I don't know what ever will.Probably nothing.

I'd ask him to explain his comments tonight, but I forgot,he doesn't talk to Hardie and Langdon. Now,why would that be?

Don't back pedal now your obsession has caught you out lol, and there's few numpties on here that fell for it.
