I was at Manning FC last year Grassy and noticed whilst browsing the former players of note on the board at the club it wasn't just Bomber Peake the Dees missed out on. Peter Spencer & Mark Maclure were a couple of other handy types from Manning ...although you did get Toby Jackson!! :silly:

Stand corrected on Buckinara Swandog.Remember he done his knee first minute of the 83 VFL grandfinal.
But im just not buying Anchormans comment that Ron Boucher seen Steve Michael and got out of the way.Big Ron took a backward step to nobody.

GTR I went to most of the 80's SOO games usually a Wednesday arvo game with 40k+ attendance. Not sure which year it was but big Ronny Boucher was one of the WA ruckmen up against champions like Madden. Ron was not in the same universe as far as skills went but he was immensely strong and had a black belt in martial arts. Madden tried to muscle up on him early so Roo who was several inches shorter just grabbed the front of Maddens jumper lifted him up and threw him to the ground then just stood on the mark arms raised. That was the end of Maddens physical approach so he started to use his much better leap to beat Roo, so at bouncedowns Roo proceeded to karate chop across Maddens forearm and biceps when going for the tap, by half time Madden could barely raise his arms, he commented after the game that he'd never been so sore and bruised in his whole career B)

When talking tough players I don't rate snipers like, Neesham, the Solins, Frank Bucknal, Phil Read and that type of player as tough, the toughest player I ever saw play the game was Hayden Bunton jnr, total ball player who was utterly fearless in his pursuit of the footy.

there is no doubt that SM saved Jimmy from being belted by Basil Campbell in the 1981 grand final

Fiar comment Anchorman.Stephan michael had it all.Fantastic player,a long way ahead of his time. And to add the physical side of his game was another bonus. So much respect from me for being a career WAFL player with so much interest from VFL clubs.

Well said SS can remember Boucher knocking Madden to the ground a number of times.Really miss the enforcers in modern day footy.

Cracker game Keene Bucky combo was pretty good shame they never teamed up for us. Bring back the 15 fk off the 50 worst rule change ever

I wagged school that day to attend the match. Unfortunately one of my teachers watched the news where I was on the telecast getting signatures from the Vic players earlier in the day. Copped the cane the next day for lying but it was well worth it...... What a game :Pj

Edit : FYI Grassy, Terry from down at SD took me a young whipper snapper along to that match

Still got the autograph book with all them vic signatures too...no less than 7 Brownlow medalists amongst them
