I had the feeling that new AFL fans might start following the Wafl.Thats clearly not the case and the Afl alignments havnt increased crowds either. The move from the Abc telecast hasnt helped either.
So lets go back to 1986 the last time the Wafl was a tier 1 competition. The average crowds where 5 times larger than todays crowds but there was no Afl game in Perth each week.Another factor back in 86 the shops closed at high noon on Saturday arvos. In 30 years the demographics of our workforce has changed, lots of people work all day Saturday.
Have thought this for a while now,do what they do in the NT.Play Wafl during the Summer months at night time.Like the A League does to avoid the winter football codes.Footy all year around and once Burswood is finished the Waca would be perfect.Sell our Afl licenses to the Afl take the cash and move to the summer night comp.

Leedy what's the go with the international game this weekend, don't your mob give out a heap of freebies? is that just for WP members or for anyone, if so how do you get one? I've dragged my bro up from down south to get along to this one so would be good to get him a ticket.

SS,

The free tickets I am sure are handed out at schools for the parents (2 for the price of one I believe), your mate will have to pay, its bugger all anyway and if he is a $ubi supporter he is going to be treated to a 70+ point win :)

I have advocated selling the two licences for years now, its the only hope we have for a future. Abolish the Wafc, invest the funds in a wafl future fund and run an independent comp. Sounds good mate.

We can do it with the cash from the Eagles and Dockers sale.Maby even get Foxtel on board or 7 or 9,,,10 doing big bash. Could attract a large east coast audience.Have to avoid the AFL at any cost and the Summer is the only way we can do that.

This isn't a bad idea actually when people are crying out for footy and are over cricket maybe test the waters with a shortened version of 3 - 4 games from late Jan to early Feb and gauge reactions from crowds, TV ratings etc, played exclusively at the WACA under lights as I think you suggested initially and then when a bit of money comes flowing in the clubs can put up light at their home grounds and gradually gain a new following whilst dragging us dinosaurs along with it.
They could do it next year without the WAFC having anything to do with it if the players were offered some coin from the telecasters, sponsors etc etc - maybe attract a few recently retired AFL players a year or a few mths out of the game to boost profile. If it grows then expand it through March and April maybe even invite a few SANFL clubs along for the ride and tell the WAFC to fuck off haha.

Just need a Twiggy Forrest to bankroll it

Another thing is take out the wings and play 16 a side, 20min quarters flat, so that allows for 90min games incl breaks roughly and opens up double headers played over 3 hrs or so like a game of 20/20. The comp needs something because as much as I am a staunch traditionalist who hates change our great comp is slowly dying in front of our eys and probs wont be recognisable in 10 yrs which isnt a hell of a lot of time
